We did find a little time to do some work on the 1967 Farmall 706, charged the battery up, made a couple new battery cables, swapped out the rear tires with a couple used tires that hold air. Once we got the throttle hooked back up and figured out the pull style shutoff, it cranked over and fired up almost instantly. It's a start with this tractor, we did get a few things fixed on the Farmall 666 as well but we will update on that machine soon.

We went on an adventure this past weekend, where we had the opportunity to meet a recently retired potato farmer. He started farming in 1965 and planted and harvested his last crop at 85y/o. Two of the tractors that we bought he had since they were new. We got the opportunity to buy the Farmall 666, and the Farmall 706 with the cab and loader. A friend of ours bought the Farmall 966. They need some tinkering but it's nothing that we can't handle. While we thought that we had a solid plan, sometimes things go unnoticed, like the horrible fuel mileage that a truck gets while loaded, trying to keep up with the big truck and trailer. Needless to say we almost made it to the exit to get gas. Thanks to Alex Huff for unhooking the low bed trailer and picking up and delivering us gas. We decided just to go slower for the rest of the trip and watch the gas gauge a little closer.

The end of one man's farming journey, and the start for one boy. I'm just happy to be able to help keep the generations connected.

It's been a cold winter so far, we've been busy keeping the cows on dry deep bedding, and they love it when I unroll a bale of cornstalks. We weaned our calves the first of the year, and have kept them dry and well fed this winter as well. As usual everyone helps out when they can, morning and evening chores have definitely been more time consuming during these cold months, than in the summer when they are on pasture with automatic waterers. But everyday the sun stays a little longer, so we will be out cutting hay before we know it.

54° F and almost an inch or rain, Two years ago almost to the day mother nature played the same dirty trick on us, this storm so far hasn't been as bad to us. We did however learn very valuable lessons from that storm two years ago. The old lean-to has had several battle scars from storms past and a dozen more from me operating the tractor 😆.

We had a busy day Sunday, we separated out our harvest steers first. Then we ran our cows and heifers through the chute. This was our first time trying out a blood sample pregnancy test the kit came with 6 tests which is perfect for us as we only had 6 girls to check. After we collected all the blood samples we went in the shop where it was much warmer and finished the tests, 5 out of 6 are due to calve in the spring.
Then we loaded up the steers and brought them to the processor. We had a pretty good day for it warming up to only the low 20s, and the cattle surprisingly all worked good for the most part which means that apparently we might be learning as we go.

We had a very cold and busy week. Tuesday morning was a frigid -15°F, and the rest of the week wasn't much better. Thankfully we had a local farm go and pick up a load of shavings for us, we also had some cornstalk bales ready to go for this cold weather as well. After a broken post, and some new dents and cracks in the bedding lean-to, we got everyone freshly bedded, and the shavings under cover. We also got the coral panels and squeeze chute setup to preg-check our cows and heifers, also we are going to be loading up steers going to the butcher tomorrow.
*** We still have some available for beef if anyone is looking.
