A year ago I told Danielle Kirchner that we would help her get a state fair trip her last year. I told her just like I tell everyone I work with, I can provide the advice it’s up to them to do the work.

There were a lot of trips up to their place this summer, Danielle came along to some jackpots and got some ring time in, and every time I told her something needed done it happened.

She may not have hung any banners at county fair but we accomplished our goal, and she had the best county fair she ever has.

Good luck to all of our Minnesota customers at state fair this week and keep grinding!

A few years ago I would have told you I would never have a Spot sow on my place but daughters tend to have a way of getting what they want.

This barrow has been a fun one for Rae and has had a great run so far this year. We sold his littermate sister this spring but we were able to get her rounded back up to lay in the sow herd. Looks like we will be breeding way more Spots this fall than I would call ideal but when they are good they are worth having around.

Full circle moment for Rae-Lynn today

A year ago she was showing a spot gilt we bought from Tom Thompson that hung a few banners and ended up Reserve overall breeding gilt at county fair. That gilt never liked me and the night she farrowed was one very unhappy first time mother. I called Rae to come out to the farrowing house and deal with her spot gilt, she crawled in the crate, rubbed the gilts belly and all was well.

Today she drove the Champion Spot and 3rd overall barrow at the Beast of the Southeast Showdown out of that litter. This one has been a fun one to look at and feed on since he was little, even for a guy that doesn’t care for spots.

Last fall when I took a call from Florida I never expected it to be a totally unrelated Meitner calling about pigs! I’m sure glad I took that call and sent a barrow out of our best sow to Alli. I have never personally met this young woman but I have seen the hard work she puts in and she is exactly the kind of kid we love working with!

The barn will be closed on Saturday for the Northern Exposure pig sale. Sunday morning we will re load the chip barn with the mid to late January set. This set includes Yorks, Spots, Chesters and crosses. Some of our best pures are in this age group perfect for state fair and fall shows.
