Making way with Bryars Barn & our workshop so it’s ready when we decide to get moved to the property. After getting a quote on concrete, think we’ll stick with the rock base for a while!!

Cut the inside down to only a slight downhill grade then put down a thick layer of 53s for a solid base then finished it off with a level layer of 11s for a nice look and easier to lay on for mechanic work! The ground could use some drying out to make dirt work easier!! Got our loads of rock delivered from Cave Quarries!

Been a while since we posted about our little farm build. Slowly gathering materials, DIY projects as much as we can, spending quality time with our kids and family and progress on Bryar’s Barn continues with the loft floor going in now for the littles to have their own space to play in the hay and just be kids. They love fishing in their watering hole in the creek catching anything possible.
Our water storage and shallow well are underway with 2 natural springs on the property. Plan is to drop one section of pipe in the spring and the other 3 will store the water for daily use and have enough backup for summer dry spells. Between everything we should be able to keep 6,000 gallons on hand. Self sustainability is the ultimate homestead goal.
We obtained a shipping container and dug a deep hole with our tractor to bury it as our tornado shelter/canning cellar and our tiny cabin will go on top of it in the woods when we’re able to move to the farm permanently.
Bryar’s Memorial is absolutely thriving with abundant flowers growing throughout her dedicated area. She must really be watching over us and protecting her sisters from dangers as we found a dead copperhead in the middle of the driveway one day.

Since getitng back from Bryars Make-a-Wish vacation this is the first peek of our alfalfa field that we prepped and seeded on April 28th at the Folsomville property!!
This 12acre section of the 16 acres is coming in nicely with all the rain we’ve gotten the past week and has tremendously helped jumpstart the seed into growth!! Can’t wait to see its growth in the next few weeks with sunshine and more showers on the way!!
The other attached 4acres that was sowed fall 2024 is also growing very nicely!! So far minimal insect pressure on the leaves and it does have some weeds in this field, which we expected and will not be doing anything about unless they are noxious weeds that will be hand picked.
The goal is NO preservatives, NO pesticides, NO herbicides, NO chemicals period!! We are growing ALL NATURAL ALFALFA HAY which will have some common weeds in it. We will however be using commercial fertilizer to maintain nutrient levels sufficient for growth and when available manure/compost applications to utilize less commercial fertilizer when possible.

Got the new alfalfa hayfield disced under 2x after the recent rains we’ve had. Some may call me crazy and I may have been the only one that was in the fields but its important to get our stuff done before the next rain and family trips coming soon. Then back to the AgLime and fertilizer spreading for our clients for the AgLime Lawn & Land Services LLC business.
After discing not going the greatest with being a little too wet, we did a final till with the rear tiller to create a very nice seed bed after some much needed sun, heat, and wind.
Finally ran the rented no-till seeder over it to smooth out any remaining rough areas and get that alfalfa on the ground and cultipacked.
The deer and turkeys have been out everyday checking out the progress for their soon to be food buffet.

When putting in a new hayfield always test the soil and apply the correct amount of AgLime for PH level required and also (N,P,K) nutrients needed.
Applying whats needed and getting it incorporated into soil via tillage methods, makes certain that the lime is in the rootzone for otpimal growth and nutrient absorption by the crops.
In this 12 acre field we are going to bring the PH level up to 7.1-7.2 for growing alfalfa(80%) and orchard grass(20%) mixture. Applying 2 tons per acre of AgLime should bring it close, if need be we’ll do another topdressing of AgLime in the fall.
If anyone is in need of specialty AgLime spreading on their small farms, hayfields, pastures, etc. contact:

We took on 16 more acres that we’re converting from cropland to hay ground. 12 acres will be new spring seeding while the other 4 acres were seeded last fall. This land has high wash areas into and off of 2 ponds. First step we’re doing is bush hogging the corn stalks to help them deteriorate/breakdown. While bush hogging, found that they cover the ground better when mowed against the rows rather than with the rows. Trying to scatter the debris evenly so in the next step of tilling the ground, it incorporates better into the soil and creates an even organic matter layer.

Getting closer to having Bryars Barn done, some double doors to go on top for the hay/play loft and double doors on both bottom ends, we like that it’s a new build but looks like just an old barn that’s been there for ages.
