How to get started and an example “typical” day of low carb/keto eating!

I thought this was great info and a very realistic outline. 📌

However, I would change a few things. This is what has made me successful over the past year!👇

📎 Intermittent fasting: instead of eating breakfast, I drink my ketones 🥤 in the morning. They put me into ketosis within an hour (and will not break my fasting window!). The appetite suppression is incredible- which helps me fast until lunch time (or later!).

📎 I have my first meal around noon each day and eat all of my daily calories between noon and 6 PM. This is called a 18:6 fast. It gives your body a longer time to burn calories and reach your stored body fat. Recently I’ve also been incorporating OMAD (one meal a day) - especially on days when I’m super busy.

📎 I track my macros and calories using a free app - I suggest Carb Manager! Your own macros and calories will be unique to you! I definitely recommend using an app if you are brand new!

I love Southern Keto’s Sloppy Joe recipe (saved/searchable in my group Keto with Kristin) so I’m excited to try this twist!

Cheesy Sloppy Joe Casserole!!

INGREDIENTS:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 8 oz baby bella mushrooms, chopped
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1/2 large green bell pepper, diced
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp dijon mustard
- 2 Tbsp powdered erythritol
- 1 Tbsp xanthan gum (to thicken, optional)
- 2 cups Monterey jack or pepper jack cheese

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 400 F.

2. Brown ground beef on med heat, drain grease.

3. Add all other ingredients and simmer for 5 min.

4. Spray baking dish with non-stick spray. Add ground beef mixture.

5. Layer Monterey jack cheese on top and bake for 15-20 minutes or until cheese is golden.

Ever fall off track (this past holiday weekend, perhaps)?⁣!

It's ok!! This is a lifestyle, not a diet! Occasional road bumps happen! The goal is to get back on track and not let a cheat day turn into days, weeks, or months!

So here are some tips!⁣👇

👉Stick to less than 20 net carbs. This will help you deplete glucose stores faster! If possible, try staying away from keto desserts, low carb wraps, and artificial sweeteners.⁣

👉Eat more fat than usual. Your body is going to need more fat than usual as it shifts back into fat burning mode to help avoid cravings! STAY STRONG during that first day or two that are often the hardest!

👉Try intermittent fasting. Fasting is a great way to kick your body into fat burning mode and deplete extra glucose stores. ⁣💥Want an added boost? The 60-Hour Reboot really helps shift your metabolism fast!💥

👉Exercise! This is another great way to use up the glucose and is an important piece of an overall healthy lifestyle!⁣

👉Stay hydrated. Enough said! 😉⁣

👉Don't give up and be kind to yourself. This is a journey and one to enjoy! Focus on the positives and all of the amazing changes you've made for your body and know you CAN and WILL do it! Keep stress down to avoid a cortisol spike that can make getting on track even more difficult.⁣

👉Eating extra calories is ok! This is ok while working towards that fat adapted state again! When hungry or experiencing cravings, drink lots of water and make good, healthy food choices! ⁣

Cheesy Sour Cream Chicken! More recipes saved in my group Keto with Kristin!

INGREDIENTS:
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 1/2 pounds chicken breasts (4 total)
- 1 cup chicken stock
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 6 green onions, sliced
- 6 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in a large sauté pan, over medium heat. Once the pan is heated, add the onion, mushrooms, garlic, salt and pepper. Sauté until the mushrooms and onions are nice and caramelized, about 20 minutes.

2. Heat the remaining butter and olive oil in a separate large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, sear the chicken breasts until they are cooked all the way through and golden brown on both sides.

3. While the chicken is searing, add the chicken stock and sour cream to the onion and mushroom mixture. Mix in and bring to a slow boil over medium-high heat. Then, reduce the heat to low and allow the sauce to simmer and thicken, about 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Once the chicken is cooked all the way through, plate it and top with sauce, mozzarella cheese, bacon, and green onions.

Yield: 4 servings
NUTRITION per serving:
Calories: 459, Fat: 32g, Carbohydrates: 7.3g, Protein: 16g

I LOVE pumpkin season!! 🎃

PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE MUG CAKE!

Mix together:
1 Tbsp melted butter
2 Tbsp Swerve Brown
1 egg
2 Tbsp pumpkin purée
1 Tbsp coconut flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
A few dashes of pumpkin pie spice (or more!)
Splash of vanilla extract

Microwave for 80 to 90 seconds in a greased ramekin, or just until set. Cut a circle in the top, scoop out the center almost to the bottom, and reserve the top slice of the cake that’s removed.

Fill with a mixture of 2 ounces cream cheese, 2 Tbsp confectioners Swerve, and a splash of vanilla.
