Saddle fitting day for Lady! 🐴🤎

We were excited to have Matthew Markel with Leg Up Saddlery, an independent Western saddle fitter, out at Sycamore Grove today to help Lady and me find the right Western saddle.

Matthew took the time to carefully measure Lady, evaluate her shape and movement, and explain what we should be looking for in a properly fitting saddle—for both Lady and me.

I’m sharing a photo and video from our visit because it was fascinating to learn just how much goes into proper saddle fit. A good saddle isn’t just about comfort for the rider—it can make a difference in a horse’s comfort, movement, and overall well-being.

Now the search for Lady’s new saddle begins! 🐴🤎

We’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be taking orders for Lady’s Neigh-Licious Nibbles — Carrot & Oat Horse Treats!

Inspired by our horse, Lady, and taste-tested by her miniature donkey friends Oliver & Laurel, these wholesome treats are handcrafted right here at Sycamore Grove in small batches.

Willow and Ruby update.

I spent some time visiting Willow & Ruby across the fenceline today, and it was wonderful to see them so happy and settled. They have been successfully reintroduced to the herd and are right where you hope to find a couple of Florida Cracker Cows — peacefully grazing alongside their herd mates with plenty of pasture around them.

After two years of calling Sycamore Grove home, Willow and Ruby recently returned to the larger herd next door at Swiss Oaks Farm, rejoining the very herd they were born into.

Seeing them today made my heart happy. They looked content, comfortable, and completely at home with the herd.

And although their pasture may be next door now, Willow and Ruby will always be part of the Sycamore Grove family and part of our story. Their story continues through the special stewardship and conservation partnership between our neighboring farms as we help preserve one of Florida’s oldest and rarest heritage cattle breeds.

Sometimes caring for the animals we love means giving them exactly what they need — and today, watching these two happily grazing with their herd, it felt pretty wonderful to see.

🐂 A New Chapter for Willow & Ruby 🌿

After two wonderful years at Sycamore Grove, our Florida Cracker cows, Willow and Ruby, have moved just next door to Swiss Oaks Farm, where they’ve rejoined their original herd and have more room to graze and enjoy the companionship of other cattle.

While their pasture may have changed, they’re still very much part of the Sycamore Grove family. Through a special care and conservation partnership between our neighboring farms, we’ll continue to be part of their lives while supporting the preservation of Florida’s historic Cracker Cattle.

And the best part? They’re only a fence away. 🤍

Willow and Ruby, being typical Florida Cracker Cattle, are doing what they do best—happily browsing and munching on the brush.

After two large limbs came down in the east pasture during a recent thunderstorm, they made quick work of helping with the clean-up.

Their move back to Swiss Oaks Farm has been pushed back a few weeks, which means I get a little more time to enjoy their sweet personalities and daily antics before they rejoin their original herd.

A summer rain at Sycamore Grove can only mean one thing... someone found the perfect patch of wet sand to roll in. One good brushing later and that beautiful coat was back!
