One of my queen caterpillars emerged from its chrysalis earlier. What a beautiful sight.

Lovely shot of our pond this evening. I'm excited to see so many dragonflies! We are proud to commit to a dragonfly-friendly habitat here at Sycamore Grove. Dragonfly nymphs live in water for months or years, making them highly susceptible to pesticide run-off, herbicides, and lawn chemicals. We have chosen natural pest control over chemicals. Did you know adults dragonflies are fierce predators and feed on various pests like mosquitoes, flies, and gnats?

These are the two caterpillars feeding on my milkweed. I thought the one in the second picture was a Swallowtail because of its markings, but I may be mistaken. I read that Swallowtails do not eat milkweed. Are both of these Monarchs? From online pictures I have viewed, the Monarchs do not have the yellow on their backs. They have just a black band, no yellow on the black banding as seen in the second photo. If you know what these are, please leave a comment.

At first glance, I got excited thinking these were Monarch caterpillars munching on my milkweed, but I believe they are Swallowtail caterpillars. Can someone tell me what they are?

Poor solo turkey pacing along the fenceline in our walkthrough. I read that turkeys pace a wall or fence because they get confused when blocked by a physical barrier. I don't understand why they just don't fly over the fence. 😄

I was in the barn yesterday afternoon and heard a cracking sound followed by a huge crashing sound. I look out and see the animals startled and running. Turns out, a huge tree on our property fell into our neighbors adjoining pasture, totally crushing a metal gate. As they say, when you own a farm, there's always something. Ruby, our brindle Cracker Cow, was very curious, as seen in the pictures. A short time later, our neighbor's entire herd of Cracker Cows showed up, checking out the happenings. Until we can get the tree removed and fencing replaced, we created a makeshift barrier to prevent our neighbor's smaller cows from getting out and potentially wondering out onto County Road 208.

Lady enjoyed a nice, cool bath earlier this evening with some prescription shampoo and spray for itchiness. Lady suffers from a sensitivity to flies and gnats. She feels much more comfortable now.
