At Charter Oak Winery, every bottle is made by hand using old-world w**emaking traditions passed down through generations. Here in this home, built in 1900 and once the home of grandparents Guido and Matilda Rigianti, who lived to the remarkable ages of 99 and 98, I sometimes wonder what they would think if they could see it now.

These old walls have been filled with art, with music, with laughter, and most of all, with love.

And on a night like tonight, I wonder what they would think as music once again fills their home—this time with the extraordinary voice and songwriting of Ian Flanigan, sharing a song he wrote with a room full of people gathered together.

What an unforgettable evening.

You could see it in the smiles, the tears, the laughter, and the love on the faces of everyone in the room. For a few beautiful moments, it felt as though the past and the present came together—generations connected by a home that has witnessed more than a century of life, love, family, art, and music.

How Charter Oak Wines Are Made

At Charter Oak Winery, w**emaking is more than a process—it is a family tradition passed down through generations. Our w**es are handcrafted using old-world methods, allowing the grapes and the vineyard to express themselves naturally. The grapes are carefully harvested, and fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeast. During fermentation, the grapes are worked by hand, preserving a slow, traditional approach to w**emaking that has become increasingly rare in today’s modern w**e industry.

When fermentation is complete, the grapes are pressed using our family’s historic redwood basket press, continuing a method practiced generations ago. The w**e is then transferred to barrels, where it is allowed to develop naturally before bottling. Our w**es are unfined and unfiltered, with minimal intervention from grape to bottle. At Charter Oak, we believe great w**e doesn’t need to be manufactured—it needs to be nurtured. Every bottle reflects the vineyard, the vintage, and a w**emaking tradition that has endured for generations.

Here at Charter Oak Winery, we continue to make w**e the old-school, old-world way—naturally, patiently, and by hand. Our w**es ferment outdoors in the vineyard for four to six weeks, surrounded by the vines and warmed by the California sun.

It is a w**emaking tradition unlike any other—a method rooted in generations of craftsmanship and a deep respect for the grape, the vineyard, and the natural process of making w**e.
