The Spring Mountain District AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in the Napa Valley AVA in California. Spring Mountain District AVA was officially established as an American Viticulture Area in 1993. Encompassed within its bounds are about 8,600 acres (3,480 ha), of which about 1,000 acres (400 ha) are planted to vineyards. Given the small crop yields on hillsides, the region represents l

ess than 2% of Napa Valley wine. The appellation sits on steep terraces of the Mayacamas Mountains that separate Napa Valley from Sonoma Valley and the Santa Rosa Plain. It lies in a northwestern portion of the Napa Valley above and behind the town of Saint Helena. The boundaries of the appellation extend from the top of the ridgeline on the western edge, tracing the Sonoma/Napa County border. From the ridgeline the boundaries extend down to the 400 feet (122 m) contour line at the eastern base of the hillside. The southern boundary is Sulphur Creek and one of its tributaries, while the northern boundary is Ritchie Creek. Elevations range from 400 feet (122 m) to 2,600 feet (792 m). The region has a predominantly eastern exposure.

No, you aren't seeing double! It's the Smith-Madrone Riesling From The Future Vertical! Now available online and during tastings.

Two bottles each of our 2021, 2022, and 2023 Estate Riesling.

You don’t often get to glimpse the future, but here it is. Have some fun! Line them up, open them, compare and contrast, maybe even do it blind and see if you can tell which is the most complex (aka “oldest”) or sprightliest (youngest). We have not yet released the 2022 and 2023 vintages, so this is also an unusual way to build your cellar with wines whose maturity you can track at home.

The same grape, the same vineyard on Spring Mountain, the same hands at work, the most minimal winemaking---no barrel fermentation, no French oak, no malolactic fermentation, just the purest possible expression of the Riesling grape. In a recent tasting of these wines, we found notes of ginger, orange blossom, melon, nuttiness---see if you agree!

Four mountains. One vision. Since 1995, Lokoya has pursued the pure expression of Napa Valley mountain Cabernet Sauvignon through four iconic appellations—Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain District, and Diamond Mountain District.

Crafted from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, each wine reflects the character of its mountain with clarity and precision.

At Lokoya, the winemaking remains constant so the vineyard can speak—revealing the influence of elevation, soils, climate, and sunlight in every glass. Through thoughtful farming and minimal intervention, each vintage becomes a true expression of place.

Rooted in history. Defined by rarity.

School House Vineyard takes its name from the original one-room schoolhouse built on the property in the 1880s—a landmark that stood for more than a century before being lost to fire in the mid-1980s. Its legacy lives on through a remarkable vineyard that has quietly produced some of Napa Valley’s most sought-after wines since the 1950s.

Steeped in heritage and crafted in extremely limited quantities, School House remains one of Napa Valley’s original cult producers—long before cult wines became a category of their own.

A true expression of history, place, and timeless winemaking.
