Lail Vineyards

Lail Vineyards Producing Wines of Legendary Quality since 1879 Following Niebaum’s death in 1908, the winery was under the guidance of John Daniel Sr.

Lail Vineyards, led by its Managing Partner, Robin Daniel Lail, is the 21st Century’s extension of the Lail’s Napa Valley winemaking legacy reaching back over 130 years. Six generations ago, Robin’s great grand-uncle, Captain Gustave Niebaum, established the legendary Inglenook Vineyards in 1879 in Rutherford. who managed the vineyards until the repeal of Prohibition. When Inglenook passed into t

he hands of Niebaum’s great-nephew, John Daniel Jr. in 1936, he became the steward of Gustave Niebaum’s dreams for the winery, with remarkable results. Working closely with his friend Robert Mondavi, John Daniel Jr. was largely responsible for creating the foundation of the Napa Valley appellation as we see it today. He believed that the wines made in Napa Valley could rival the best wines made anywhere in the world, and he played a significant role in making this vision a reality. When Inglenook was sold in 1964, it was widely recognized as a winery that had changed the face of winemaking in California forever. In 1977, Robin joined Robert Mondavi for a five-year apprenticeship. She then went on to co-found Dominus in 1982 with her sister Marcia Smith and winemaker Christian Moueix. In the following year, Robin co-founded Merryvale Vineyards with Bill Harlan, his partners at Pacific Union and Jon Lail. She served as President of Merryvale for 10 years. In 1995, the Lails sold their interests in Merryvale and Dominus and established Lail Vineyards with Philippe Melka as winemaker. Today, the Lail Family honors the traditions of the past, revel in the accomplishments of the present, and strive to produce wines of legendary quality. 💫 Last weekend, we experienced an exquisite thing: watching the ends of a circle, 60 years in the making, finally meet.

We were gathered at the historic Inglenook estate, the very place where Robin grew up watching her father pour his life into making remarkable wines and hoisting the Napa Valley onto the world stage. Now, it was her turn.

The honored Robin with the inaugural Auction Napa Valley Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her pivotal role as a co-founder of Auction Napa Valley and her more than four decades of visionary leadership.

Since its inception in 1981, the auction has raised more than $245 million to support vital local non-profit focused on healthcare, affordable housing, and youth wellness programs across Napa County.

When you watch someone truly tick with the current of belief—for a place and a people—you can’t help but fall in love.

Cheers to Robin, to the immense good that has spilled from 45 years of Auction Napa Valley, and to the generous vintners, volunteers, and patrons who make it possible. As said so perfectly, it was a wonderful night of Pouring it Forward.

Last chance for a singular first ✨ Our inaugural release of THE HENRY ends this evening. Handcrafted, from barrel to bottle - it’s the details that light us up. If we’re to honor six generations and six appellations, excellence must be the lynchpin. This is where THE HENRY story begins; we hope you’ll be a part of it.

✨ Robin and Henry with the first bottle of The Henry. As a young girl, she trailed her father through the cellar of Inglenook —learning not just the craft, but the courage to reimagine it. Decades later, she built a brand rooted in connection, each label a reflection of her story. The Henry honors her grandson, the first male of our sixth generation, uniting six Napa Valley appellations in one timeless blend. Legacy, still in motion. Link in bio to purchase.

Cue the confetti cannons — THE HENRY is here 👑 Meticulously crafted, from barrel to bottle. We blended six Napa Valley nested appellations in honor of Henry Dixon, the first son of our sixth generation. This limited production of hand-labeled gents is a celebration of legacy and land, and the nuances of character that light the fuse.
This is storytelling, our way.
