Montagu Wines is a family owned company founded by Weston Eidson which came about as a result of working with Jason Moore from Modus Operandi Cellars during the 2012 Napa harvest. Along with Jason’s help and a phenomenal 2012 vintage, the excitement of winemaking helped Weston turn his passion for wine into his own company – Montagu Wines. A dream turned reality, Weston’s hard work and passion for
the winemaking industry has led to three phenomenally balanced wines– Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Cabernet Sauvignon. Montagu Wines is named after Weston's Great Grandfather John, the second Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and his son Edward, the third and current holder of the title; both of whose lives have shown remarkable balance. Their balance of power and strength of character with benevolence and grace, preserving tradition yet maintaining an eye toward innovation is truly masterful. Montagu Wines carries this tradition of balance into its winemaking and wines, balancing fruit with structure, the great traditional flavor profiles of Napa with innovation in winemaking and style. Our Chardonnay has expanded in to a few different vineyards, all of which would be deemed “grand cru” if modeling the Burgundian method! Durell Vineyard, Ritchie Vineyard and Charles Heintz Vineyard, each displaying striking differences, such as Durell’s minerality, Ritchie’s nutty and waxy signature profile, and the classic guava and tropical fruits from Charles Heintz. Our Pinot Noir is sourced from the famed Bacigalupi vineyard in the beautiful Russian River Valley. This vineyard hails a pinot of lush fruit and deep earthy undertones. The Bacigalupis have farmed this land for over fifty years and provided the majority of the fruit for the Chateau Montelena 1973 vintage Chardonnay which won the famed Judgment of Paris in 1976, and officially put Napa on the map as a serious global winemaking center. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is a brooding and prodigal wine that comes exclusively from one of the most historic vineyards in the heart of Rutherford. Inky/purple-colored with notes of cassis, violets, graphite, mocha and a hint of the famous Rutherford dust. Long, lingering finish that lasts until your next sip.
