It’s wild how much can change in just 14 days.

The first photo was from March 16th: nothing but dormant wood. The second is from yesterday, March 31st. In just a two-week window, this Cabernet Sauvignon block has completely transformed.

We’ve been farming this estate since 1906, and the speed of bud break still catches us off guard every year. Once the ground warms up, the vines don’t waste any time.

A very vocal vineyard audit this morning. 📢 Missy’s making sure every wire is tight and every bud is on schedule. We mostly just heard ‘more treats,’ but we’ll take it as a win.

The votes are in from bASH 2026 and we’re taking home the People’s Choice award.

Our 2021 Valdiguié was paired with Smoked Venison Takaki and Blackberry Compote, a combination that clearly stood out. This win belongs as much to the incredible chefs who brought the dish to life: Zachary Dunker of Providence, UT, Cole Smith of Avon, CT, and Zachary Thiesen of Thousand Oaks, CA.

It’s always rewarding to see our estate-grown Napa Gamay get this kind of recognition. If you haven’t had a chance to try the 2021 vintage yet, now is the time.

We’ve been farming this same land in St. Helena since 1909. That’s five generations of Battuellos, more harvests than we can count, and a whole lot of Napa history. Since we’re all about keeping things grounded, we figured it was time for a proper reintroduction.

4️⃣ 4th Gen: Dave – Tending the legacy. He’s our current vineyard manager, usually found on a tractor or deep in the rows.
5️⃣ 5th Gen: Case & Alessa – The next chapter. Already learning the ropes and helping out with every harvest.

Heritage farming isn’t about flowery stories for us; it’s about the real work. It’s about showing up every day, vintage after vintage, and making sure this land stays healthy for whoever comes next.
