🌴To prepare palm trees for a hurricane in Florida, you can:
-Prune wisely by removing dead or damaged fronds that are below the 9 or 3 o'clock position, but avoid removing more than two-thirds of the canopy.
-Remove large seeds and coconuts that can become dangerous projectiles during a storm.
-Fertilize your palm trees two to three times a year to ensure proper nutrition.
-Water palm trees a few days before a hurricane threat, but avoid overwatering.
-Mulch around the base of your plants to help retain moisture, prevent soil erosion, and insulate the roots.
-Stake young trees that might need support during heavy winds.
-Consult the professionals at Quail Run Farm and Nursery for more palm specific needs and tailored recommendations.

The Washingtonia robusta, commonly known as the Mexican fan palm, is a fast-growing and towering palm species native to northern Mexico but widely cultivated in warm climates, including Florida. This palm is relatively long-lived and can thrive for 80–100 years if properly cared for. As the palm grows, older fronds die and hang down, forming a "skirt" around the trunk. This skirt may need to be pruned for aesthetic and safety reasons, especially in windy areas.

In Southwest Florida, creating a landscape with palms that reflect the local subtropical environment is ideal. Combining native palms like the Florida Thatch Palm with flowering shrubs and sand or shell mulch can achieve a natural, beachy aesthetic. Palm trees can transform your landscape into a tropical paradise with thoughtful placement, diverse plant selection, and attention to the overall design.

We pay tribute to the first responders, the victims, their families, and everyone affected. Let's take a moment to come together as a community, share a moment of silence, and remember the spirit of hope, courage, and strength that arose from the ashes.

The Sylvestris palm, also known as the Silver Date Palm or Indian Date Palm (Phoenix sylvestris), is a popular choice in landscaping due to its striking appearance and resilience. The palm has a crown of graceful, arching fronds that are silvery-green to bluish-green. The fronds can grow up to 10–15 feet long and have sharp, pointed leaflets.

Landscaping with palm trees can create a lush, tropical vibe that brings warmth and elegance to your outdoor space.
✨Tropical Oasis: Combine various palm species with other tropical plants like hibiscus, bird of paradise, and crotons to create a lush, layered look. Group palms of different heights to build depth.

✨Palm-Lined Driveways and Walkways: Tall palms like Royal Palms or Washingtonia Palms are perfect for lining long driveways or pathways, creating a grand entrance.

✨Privacy Screening: Clumping palms like Areca or Bamboo Palms can be used as natural screens to block unwanted views while adding greenery.

✨Poolside Retreat: Palms are excellent around pools as they have minimal leaf drop. Try Foxtail Palms or Bottle Palms to add a resort-like feel.

✨Accent or Focal Points: Single-stemmed palms like Canary Island Date Palms or Bismarck Palms can be planted as dramatic focal points in a garden or courtyard.

Sea grape palms, commonly known as sea grapes (Coccoloba uvifera), are a distinctive coastal plant native to tropical regions of the Americas, especially along the shores of Florida and the Caribbean. Despite their name, they are not true palms but rather small trees or shrubs. They have large, round, leathery leaves with a red tint along the edges and veins, which add a unique texture to coastal landscapes.
