Summer is a wonderful kind of busy.
Long days, warm evenings, road trips, campfires, and the rush to squeeze every drop out of the season.

But in all that sunshine and activity, we miss something.

We miss our friends.
We miss the laughter around the table, the stories that somehow get better with each telling, and the simple joy of sharing a glass of wine together.

For now, the bottles rest and the glasses wait patiently.

And when the leaves begin to turn and the days grow shorter, the doors of Château Beeler will open once again, and this quiet room will be filled with friendship, conversation, and memories in the making.

Until then, the wine waits... and so do we. 🍷❤️🏰

Judi and I found ourselves at Crazy Vines Winery in Midland, Michigan, and what started as an ordinary outing turned into one of those unexpected discoveries that reminds you there are still some truly wonderful people out there.

It's amazing how a day that isn't going quite right can change course when you stumble across a charming little winery, enjoy some great wine, and meet someone who clearly loves what they do and the people they meet along the way.

If you're ever in the Midland area, Crazy Vines Winery is worth the stop. Great wine, great atmosphere, and at least one very awesome lady behind the counter.

Sometimes the best discoveries aren't on the itinerary at all. 🍷

Crazy Vines is owned by Jacob and Pamela Keister. We only had the opportunity to meet Pamela, but what an absolute delight. Friendly, welcoming, genuine, and the kind of person who can brighten your mood within minutes of meeting her.

PS - I had to copy the pictures from the internet, we had such a great time we never even thought about taking a photo.

Ok… even I’ll admit it—this turned out pretty cool.

What started as “let’s make the basement a little cozier” turned into a full-on WWII aviation-style lounge… and I’m still trying to find the right name for it.

The idea was born half from those old English gentlemen’s clubs you see in classic Sherlock Holmes movies, and half from the Trap Door Speakeasy we loved in Clare. This room has been a vision in my head for a long time. It took a few side roads (and a few “what was I thinking?” moments), but I feel like I finally landed pretty close to what I pictured.

What makes it special isn’t just the wood, the lighting, or the leather—it’s that my friends supported my “surely this will work” ideas.

On the window ledge are WWII and service tribute photos—family and friends who served, including my uncles Leeland Haas (WWII) and Eugene Pringle (Korean War), plus Al Selesky (WWII) and his very young bride Jan, who didn’t even blink when I called and asked if I could include them.

My original WWII Hallicrafters radio—and a huge shoutout to Ken Kruska for finding me a genuine microphone for it. That piece basically set the tone for everything that followed.

But the best part was my idea to include the wives in the vision with a nose art gallery wall. I can’t thank my lovely and very patient wife, Judi Beeler, and Kristal Cochran, Jan Bannhard, and Jayne Kruska enough for trusting me, humoring me, and letting me turn the idea into what I think is a standout display.

It may be a small room… but it carries a lot of meaning.

I am happy to announce that the National Federation of Darters has restored Chateau Beeler to good standing and officially reissued our dartboard license.

As many of you know, this followed a full review of The Emu Incident—a regrettable evening sparked by a misinterpreted rule call, not about darts, but about the acceptable amount of vermouth in a proper martini. Sadly, that disagreement escalated, logic failed, and events spiraled into a shocking emu-versus-ostrich, full-on brawl.

Details are murky. Lessons were learned. Paperwork was filed. And today we still haven’t figured out who invited the emu or the ostrich.

Long story short… we have darts again.
