What happens at a farmers market?

At first glance it looks like people buying vegetables.

But stay awhile.

You'll see a farmer explaining why this year's carrots are especially sweet. A baker describing the sourdough starter they've tended for years. A child tasting a cherry tomato for the very first time.

You'll see neighbors catching up after a busy week. Music filling the air. Friends bumping into one another by chance and deciding to share a coffee before heading home.

The Capital City Farmers Market isn't just a place where local food is sold.

It's a place where a local food system becomes visible. And where we can see how we fit into that system- how we’re a part of it.

There’s a potential to feel belonging in a way we missed out on during the week. In this world, belonging can feel magical- it can be rare.

But this isn't magic.

It's the result of farmers rising before dawn. Bakers tending their ovens. Artists returning to the studio one more time. Volunteers showing up. Neighbors known and unknown choosing to spend a morning together.

It's what happens when people decide that showing up—for one another, for the land, for good food, for community—is worth the effort.

The market asks you to slow down, to look carefully, to smell and taste something special.

It appears once a week, it brings a couple thousand people together, and then it’s gone- back to the fields, the pastures, the workshop. But you take something home with you.

There’s an inhale and an exhale. We love sharing that with you. We look forward to it. We remember it. We know that feeling, and we work hard to bring it to you- to us- every week.

We sincerely hope you’ll join us this Saturday.

Over 40 of the highest quality farmers, food producers, artisans, and makers will be here.
