Cousins and Owners, Melanie Owen and Lauren Kniebes, grew up in the small town of Coloma, Michigan in the heart of the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail. Growing up next to their family's vineyards, they were taught about the art of viticulture and winemaking at an early age. They watched as their Grandmother, Juanita Kniebes, made her homemade wine from Concord grapes grown on the family farm. As th
ey grew older, they became avid wine drinkers and aficianados while working together in the Michigan wine industry. In 2015, the duo became the only women-owned winery in SW Michigan with the opening of their winery and tasting room in downtown St. In 2017, they expanded to downtown Bridgman, Michigan with a tasting room that offers outdoor seating and a private room for event rentals. The Lazy Ballerina now makes over 20 different wines from local grapes and fruit and features on-tap options like Piquette and Hard Cider and a small selection of in-house spirits including vodka and spiced rum.
