A glimpse into the potato packing line🧐 After the potatoes are harvested, the next step in the process is the initial separation and washing of the potatoes. Washing the potatoes helps to not only clean off the dirt, but to better allow us to see any blemishes or immature potatoes. This is important for them to last once we ship them off. We have 6 varieties of potatoes we are growing this season: Fingerling, Huckleberry Gold, German Butterball, Raspberry, and Adirondack Blue Potatoes. Stay tuned to learn more about what makes these varieties so fun! In the meantime, come down to the store to try them out!

Let’s do a little squash feature! Because you all will be seeing most of these for quite a while🤩 Black Futsu Squash is the perfect heirloom squash to ease into Fall! It originated in Japan, has been around for centuries, and is small in size in nature

Black Futsu has a sweet and nutty flavor that is enhanced when cooking or baking. It is a smooth grained squash that becomes buttery smooth when baked or pureed. It can be a used for a wide variety of culinary goods such as simply roasting it, pureeing for soups & sauces, stir fry, and even pies, baked goods and other desserts. The skin is tender and edible making this squash and easy go-button for a quick dinner meal.

Finally, Black Futsu is rich in vitamins A & C, potassium, rich in fiber, and antioxidants making this one of our must eat squashes this fall!!!

Don’t let pumpkins become a missed called!! They are moving fast! We have a beautiful selection of ornamental pumpkins in pretty shades of orange, yellow, white, blue, and green! You can mix and match to create your perfect porch or table display (we have different sizes😉). Make sure to grab a few ears of sweet corn for this hot fall weekend!!

If you ever get the chance to meet the wonderful Elise from Salem Harvest, we think you should take the opportunity to get to know her. Elise organizes both produce pickups and volunteer harvests for farms to donate to food banks in the Willamette Valley. She is amazing to work with and we consider it a privilege getting to know her! A visit from Elise is always something to smile about. If you’ve are a farm local to the Willamette Valley, or have been wanting to volunteer in your community, Salem Harvest and Elise is the perfect opportunity!

Only 6 Blue Hubbards this year. Total. If you have been waiting for this crop all year, hurry in because we have a limited supply and these are going to go fast!! If you’ve been wanting to try one, now is also the time! This beautiful squash has a rich but subtle sweet nutty flavor and has an incredible smooth texture. If you like sweet potato’s, this might be your jam! We love to roast blue hubbard squash here at the farm, but comment how you would devour one of these winter squash!👇

Sweet corn season was so… SWEET this season🙈 We loved every second of it and are sad to see it wrapping up. We just started our last planting of corn today and are feeling all the feels as another corn harvest nears the end. If you have been wanting to can, freeze, cook, or just eat a fresh ear of corn - we still have it!! Hurry to the store this week for some ridiculously good sweet corn before we are done for the year🌽
