This poor little guy got beat up by the other chicks in the broader and was half dead when I found him. I got him separated and cleaned up, and he's healing nicely! His poor little head took a beating, though. He'll be forevermore known as Einstein.

It's days like this that test my patience. It's also days like this that remind me that I wouldn't change a thing!

When I woke up on this dreary morning, the only thing on my mind was a steaming cup of coffee - lightly sweetened, with my old reliable powdered creamer. Alas, no creamer. This was an obstacle I could work around, so I decided to go with lightly sweetened, but black. Not my favorite, but let's be honest; the caffeine is really the most important part.

My one-cup coffee maker decided it wanted to join in on the fun and that this morning, a battle must ensue. Periodically, it won't accept the pods that I use, even if they have the required QR code. Even if they are the specific required brand. Sometimes patient, calculated lifting and lowering of the handle will work. Sometimes I have to use a makeshift top cover from a used pod to trick it, and sometimes it just comes down to beating it into submission. This morning it was the latter.

My oldest son stood back and watched the events unfold this morning. He quietly slipped away on his scooter, and came back about 10 minutes later, and ceremoniously presented me with two cold, bottled frappe drinks and a YooHoo from the corner store.

Frappe so I could have an immediate, glorious coffee-type fluid injection, and YooHoo as a creamer replacement for my victory coffee that I beat out of the machine.

My soul is tired, and to say my patience is thin is an understatement. My work "week" started on June 1st and it still hasn't ended, despite attempts to take time off. My responsibilities have frankly been overwhelming. My house is dirty, laundry isn't done, manure needs shoveling, fences need repair, and coops need construction.

But this morning, I found peace and solace in a lukewarm cup of black coffee, lightly sweetened with YooHoo, and the good sense and thoughtfulness of my son. My daughter will be here in a couple of hours to help me with farm chores, and I am resisting the urge to check my email or Teams, even though I just heard notifications for both.

It's going to be a good day.🌞
