Raising highland cattle means experiencing some of the highest highs and the hardest lows. Today is one of the hard days. 💔
We lost a sweet 3-day-old calf named Freya, and as much as you try to remind yourself that this is part of farming, it doesn’t make the loss hurt any less. You care for them, worry over them, celebrate their first days, and begin to picture the life they’ll have—only to have it end far too soon.
Farming isn’t always the beautiful pictures and happy moments. Sometimes it’s tears, heartbreak, and trying to cope with a loss that feels much bigger than others may understand. Every animal matters. Every life matters.
Tonight, we’re reminding ourselves that we did everything we could, loved this little one fiercely, and gave them the best chance we could. That has to be enough, even when our hearts say otherwise. 🤎🐮
