🎶 It's Raining, It's Pouring... 🌧️
Let's not get caught snoring 😴 Let's turn this rain into action & community resilience.
Through OCGC's partnerships with SPARC, Storm Squad(www.stormsquad.org), and Fusion 49th, we're encouraging residents to turn today's rainfall into useful community data/information and action.
📸 See flooding or standing water in your neighborhood?
Take a photo and report it through the Storm Squad Flood Report(https://flood-report.cris-hazard.org). Community observations help document where flooding is happening and contribute to a better understanding of local conditions.
And while we're watching where the water goes, let's also think about where it could go. 💧🌱
Explore solutions like rainwater harvesting and learn practical ways to better manage rainwater around your home and property at the upcoming Community Town Hall: Rainwater Harvesting — Smart Solutions for a More Resilient Gulfport & beyond.
📅 Thursday, August 27
⏰ 6:00–7:30 PM
📍 Gulfport Neighborhood Center
1617 49th St. S., Gulfport
Free & open to the public!
Resilience isn't just preparing for the next storm. It's residents learning, documenting, sharing information, and taking action together.
Every drop—and every community voice—counts. 💧

We've Been Busy... Building Something Bigger. 🌱
If you've noticed things have been a little quieter than usual on our social media over the past several weeks, don't worry—we haven't gone anywhere.
In fact, we've been hard at work doing what cooperatives do best: building with our community.
Behind the scenes, we've been:
🥕 Developing our new Produce Box Program for this fall.
📋 Listening to community voices through our Produce Box Survey.
🏡 Making our new Headquarters into a home.
💧 Hosting our Community Hydration & Cooling Pop-up & Open House.
🤝 Building partnerships with local organizations and farms.
🎓 Expanding our knowledge through e-commerce training and cooperative learning opportunities.
🌱 Supporting a work exchange with Community Co-op Market.
🎉 Celebrating new milestones and welcoming new member-owners.
🗳️ Preparing for our upcoming St. Pete Community Voices Candidate Forum.
💚 Meeting with volunteers, partners, neighbors, and supporters who continue to help shape this cooperative.
The truth is, building a community-owned grocery store isn't just about posting online—it's about showing up, listening, planning, organizing, and working together. Sometimes we've been so busy doing the work that we've fallen behind on telling the story.
We're changing that.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing many of the moments, milestones, and stories we've experienced this summer—including photos, volunteer highlights, program updates, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and exciting opportunities to get involved.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you've been with us since day one or are just discovering OCGC, we're grateful you're here.
We are more than a grocery store.
We are a community building its own future.
And as our board member would say " See you at work!"

🌱 Membership Monday Spotlight: Membership Engagement & Outreach Committee 🌱
Behind every community conversation, outreach table, educational event, partnership, and new member-owner is a dedicated team helping OCGC grow stronger every day.
This Membership Monday, we're shining a light on OCGC's Membership Engagement & Outreach Committee — the committee responsible for connecting people to the cooperative movement and helping turn community interest into community ownership.
From tabling at festivals, farmers markets, and neighborhood events to organizing member-owner gatherings, educational workshops, tours, and collaborative partnerships, this committee serves as one of the primary ways OCGC engages both current member-owners and future member-owners.
Their work helps:
✅ Welcome and support new member-owners
✅ Build relationships with community organizations and local businesses
✅ Represent OCGC at events throughout the region
✅ Share information about cooperative ownership and food sovereignty
✅ Create opportunities for connection, learning, and collective action
✅ Strengthen the movement to build a community-owned grocery store in South St. Petersburg
The photos shared here represent just a small glimpse of the countless conversations, collaborations, volunteer hours, and community connections that continue moving OCGC forward.
Whether we're setting up an outreach table, hosting a member event, participating in community forums, or celebrating milestones together, every interaction helps build the foundation for a grocery store owned by the people it serves.
Interested in helping grow the co-op? Join OCGC &the Membership Engagement & Outreach Committee and help us connect, educate, inspire, and organize our community.
Together, we're not just building a grocery store—we're building relationships, ownership, and community wealth.

🌱 Growing Food. Growing Leaders. Growing the Future. 🌱
At OCGC, we know that building a stronger local food system requires more than growing food—it requires investing in the next generation of growers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
That's why we're excited to celebrate the 7th Anniversary of the St. Pete Youth Farm! For seven years, the farm has been creating hands-on opportunities for young people to learn about agriculture, environmental stewardship, nutrition, and food justice while strengthening our community's connection to local food.
Long-term solutions to food insecurity and food access begin with education, workforce development, and cultivating a new generation that understands where food comes from and how local food systems can thrive.
Join us in celebrating this important community asset and the young people helping grow a healthier, more resilient future for St. Petersburg.

⏰ 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Happy 7th Anniversary, St. Pete Youth Farm! Here's to many more years of growing food, opportunity, and community. 💚

🗳️ Watch Tonight!!! 🗳️
Wow! The St. Petersburg Mayoral Forum has generated so much interest that in-person seating has reached capacity. Thank you to the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area and all the community partners who continue to create opportunities for residents to learn, engage, and participate in local democracy.
https://www.youtube.com/
Couldn't get a seat? No worries! The forum will be livestreamed, giving everyone a chance to hear directly from the candidates and stay informed about the issues shaping our city. And remember—resources like candidate forums, public meetings, recordings, and educational videos are available year-round to help us become more informed and engaged community members.
At OCGC, we believe civic engagement doesn't begin and end on Election Day. It starts with paying attention, asking questions, learning from trusted sources, and sharing information with our neighbors.
📚 Stay informed.
🗣️ Stay engaged.
🗳️ Be ready to vote.
Because strong communities are built by informed people working together.

🍉 Wellness Wednesday 🍉
Did you know that watermelon is over 90% water? That makes it a delicious way to stay hydrated during Florida's hot summer months! ☀️
Packed with vitamins A and C, antioxidants, and natural sweetness, watermelon is a refreshing reminder that healthy choices can be simple, affordable, and enjoyable.
At OCGC, we believe wellness starts with access to fresh, nourishing foods and the knowledge to make the most of them.
What's your favorite way to enjoy watermelon—fresh slices, fruit salad, smoothies, or something else? 🍉💚

🎉🖤💚❤️ Juneteenth in St. Pete: A Celebration of Freedom, Culture & Community ❤️💚🖤🎉
At OCGC, we believe cooperation means showing up for one another and supporting the organizations, neighborhoods, artists, businesses, and community leaders that help make our city thrive.
This Juneteenth, there are multiple opportunities to celebrate freedom, culture, history, creativity, faith, family, and community across St. Petersburg and Gulfport. From splash parties and game nights to community celebrations, gospel gatherings, and educational conferences, there is truly something for everyone.
✨ Attend what you can.
✨ Invite a friend, neighbor, or family member.
✨ Support local vendors, artists, performers, and community organizations.
✨ Learn, celebrate, connect, and build community.
The beauty of a strong community is that no single event has to do everything. Together, these gatherings create a rich tapestry of culture, joy, remembrance, and collective action that honors the spirit of Juneteenth.
Let's celebrate freedom by building stronger relationships, supporting community-led efforts, and creating the future we want to see together.

Which events are you planning to attend? Let us know in the comments! 👇🏾💚🌱
