Good weather. Good people. Hard work. And a whole lot to be thankful for.
Another silage season in the books—working together to put up feed today that will help carry our cattle through the seasons ahead. There’s a lot of early mornings, long days, and teamwork behind every load, but it’s all part of taking care of the herd and caring for the land we’ve been blessed with.

Data collection is an essential part of our herd health program. After every calf is born, we evaluate and record each cow’s teat and udder scores, as well as the level of calving difficulty. At weaning, we assess and record the cow’s weight, body condition score, and foot structure. Evaluating cows at weaning allows us to measure how well they maintain their condition while their calf is at its greatest nutritional need and most demanding stage.

All of this information is submitted to the American Angus Association and plays a vital role in our genetic selection decisions. Our goal is to raise females that can calve unassisted, provide excellent maternal ability with sound udders, and maintain their body condition while raising a healthy calf.

Simply put, good mamas raise healthy babies—and that’s exactly what we’re breeding for.
