tulip season part iv

Thanks for a great Mother’s Day- and huge thanks to all my friends who helped w harvesting & bouquet making :)))

This was the last week of tulips for us! Our first tulip wholesale went out the last week of March… so 6 straight weeks of tulips!!!

Next for us is over wintered high tunnel production, early annuals from the field, and eventually summer annuals & dahlias!!

High tunnel tulips did great! Field tulips on the way. Spring CSA starting in two weeks or so? I’ll email with an update soon. Just waiting on bulk production from the field so we don’t have any gaps in our CSA weeks :)

🌸FLORISTS: Our 2026 Floral Wholesale Catalog launches this Friday (the first day of spring!!!)

The catalog will walk through our projected production for each month in our wholesale season (April-October). We’ll break down seasonal availability of each crop, and give you a peak at all the incredible cultivars we’ll be producing this year.

The catalog will go out to all current wholesale clients (including y’all who have reached out this winter)- if you’ve been wanting to source local for your floral buisness reach out to sign up for our wholesale list!! (A valid ST-4 form is required)

It’s been such a beautiful winter… but can’t wait for it to be over. Proud of this humble little tunnel for surviving historic snowfall, and keeping overwintered crops warm & alive despite multiple freezing polar vortexes- starting as early as the first week of December.

Really looking forward to not staying awake all night worrying about a collapsed tunnel from heavy snowfall lol.

2026 will be be Sunspell Flora’s 5th growing season!!!

Started out on 1/4 acre of land at New Entry- selling at the farmers market & at my cheesemongering job (RIP cheese shop).

Now we’ve moved up to 1.5 acres & farming full time!

I couldn’t have gotten anywhere with this little farm biz without so much support from my local Salem community ❤️, and so much help and free labor from my friends. ❤️❤️❤️

Unfortunately no dahlia tuber sales for us this spring! Couple reasons why:

-I’m holding on to a lot of varieties for massive bulk plantings (first year ever I’ll have enough of dahlias like ‘kenora lisa’, ‘Linda’s baby’, ‘jowey Winnie’, etc.)

- I’m working through the winter at another job to fund a brand new walk in cooler for the farm! Will be a game changer for our tulip forcing program, and allow for even higher quality blooms for wholesale. But I’m not even halfway through dividing clumps on top of the 40 hour workweek😬

- Our fall dahlia clump sale did better than I expected! Moved a ton of dahlias that way

- and finally, lost some tubers to voles this year (🙄). Not enough to be devastating, but enough to strain what I would have available for sale. They really liked ‘cafe au lait’. PLUS I’m not gonna sell yall tubers with little bites taken out lol.

Thankfully- there are SO MANY amazing dahlia sellers in MA. Y’all don’t need to be buying from any big box stores- there are great tuber sources from other small farms that can provide the best quality & incredible varieties (big box stores = gall ☠️☠️☠️)

I love sharing tubers so we’ll be back in the saddle for spring 2027 :)
