The Crooked Path Farm

The Crooked Path Farm I started this page for selling my goat milk soaps. Now I am transitioning to building a sensory farm. One step at a time in that direction.

Mr Hank is one of t he sweetest boys! Last evening I was sitting in the bottle baby pen and he would jump on me, I would pet him, then set him down. He would immediately jump right back up and then about the 3rd time he laid down in my arms. I set him back on the ground,. He flipped around, jumped back into my arms, threw his neck around around mine, and then laid down with a big sigh.

Between 2:15 and 2;30 Diamond finally started pushing in earnest. I had gone to the house to warm up some milk for Hank and got him fed. When I got back to the barn, she had part of an amniotic sac out. I watched her push a couple of times and saw nothing. I had a feeling something was wrong. So I reached in to check. Guess what I felt?
Did you guess a tail? If you did, you're correct. Also, she wasn't dilated completely. So, I put gentle pressure on her cervix to help finish dilating. Then, I repositioned baby's feet one at a time. Then, we (Diamond and I) had to hurry getting baby out because baby was backward. You have to make sure baby doesn't try to breathe too early as well as that cord snapped before I got her all the way out. Thankfully, baby girl is OK. Gave her to mama Diamond to clean off because brother was coming right behind. Diamond took a break and licked off the first two. Then, number 3 was ready.
Everyone is healthy. We ended up with 2 girls and 1 boy.

In addition to Diamond, Sapphire was also due yesterday. (the 16th) She hasn't looked close until maybe today. She is more quiet about everything. As of the writing of this (at the end of the 17th) neither one has had babies yet. There have been noticeable contractions, but no pushing and the contractions are sporadic. I'm thankful they waited until after the cold. Now, I'm anxious to see babies. 😁❤️

Diamond is done with being pregnant. 😂 Poor girl. She is due tomorrow. (March 16) This is the biggest she has been during a pregnancy and just look at that udder! This will be the third time she's had kids. The first year, she had 1 doeling (girl). Last year she had 2, 1 buckling and 1 doeling. She has a tendency to have large kids and I'm a bit concerned there might be 3 in there. The only reason I am concerned about the number of kids is because the more kids, the higher the chances are that the kids will be tangled up. She, herself, was a triplet and tried coming tail first. I had to push her back in and grab her back feet so her mama (my late Ruby) could push her out. The other concern I have is this weather. They are calling for 10° F. overnight. I'm praying and hoping she will wait until daylight when I can be with her and it warms up a bit. I will update when she's had her kids.

Over the years I have been handed animals that are on the brink of death. Sometimes, everything I try isn't enough to help them. Other times, I have seen miracles happen.
Meet Calliope.
She is my most recent miracle baby. The first photo is when I first got her. You can see her progression. Now she is outside with the other bottle babies. Not every case turns out like this, but cases like her are the reason I will usually say yes and try my best to help.

Our little farm grew by 8 feet today. Mama Daffodil had twins today around 2:30. I had been watching her for 4 hours and the moment I stepped away to feed a bottle to a different baby, she decided that she needed to finally start pushing. One big boy and one little girl. 💙🩷

I forgot to post this. The little buckling born at the beginning of the week now has a name. His name is Truffle. Thanks David Iverson for the suggestion. Thanks for the other names too. They will be put to use I'm sure.

Sweet Caroline was born around 8:30 last night. This girl is the first baby in my Golden Guernsey breed up program.
I was trying to think of names for her. So, I gave my son a choice. We could name her Edelweiss (going with the flower theme like her mama Aster) or Caroline (her papa's name is Half Pint, so it goes with the Little House on the Prairie theme). My boy decided to call her Caroline.
Welcome to our farm Caroline.

So excited!! My very first baby out of my Golden Guernsey buck was born this evening!! I will get better photos tomorrow when it is light. Can you guess if baby is a boy or girl??? Baby was still very new in this photo. Mama Aster did great. She labored all day and then with just a few (3 or 4) rounds of good strong pushes and baby was out. Surprised both of us (Aster and I). 😁
