Juneteenth is coming up this Friday and the bakery will be donating 25% of sales from our Central Street location that day to North Shore Juneteenth This organization works to educate our community about black history, recognize and uplift black leaders in our community, and organize celebrations and events around this important part of our shared history such as the flag raising all around the north shore. Pictured here is Salem’s flag raising from earlier this week. We hope to see you for breakfast or lunch on Friday!

THE A&J KING RETROSPECTIVE, PART 2: THE EARLIEST OF EARLY DAYS! I don’t have pics of everyone, but these folks were part of our year 1 crew - you may recognize some of them STILL as A&J King and Salem mainstays! They were with us right at the messy, crazy beginnings when we didn’t know how to cash out a register (day 1), make an espresso drink (thank you marielsouza ), needed help in the bakery so we could catch a day off (first bakers John Thibodeau and Sarah LF Thibodeau and Jereme), and - god forbid - wait on paying customers (Anna M. Cassell , Joanne K, maryxmascakes , elisetowlesnow )…there were so many more, but cameras were a little less ubiquitous back then…more to come!

WHO LET THESE KIDS OPEN A BAKERY? Enjoy some images from early 2006 as we toured a repository for construction debris (and saw a bakery), assembled a used oven, tested products 2 days before opening, and decorated our sparse space with ikea shelving and decor sourced from Oldies Marketplace . What a time to be alive and terrified! We opened on June 28, 2006. FUN FACT ABOUT 2006: that’s the year Pluto lost its planetary status!

You can support this fundraiser by preordering bags of cookies or buying them off the shelf at both locations. The bags contain eight cookies and can be purchased 6/25-6/28.
