Homestead Happenings: You might be thinking that it's been some time since I complained about milking...well, that's because we are now down to once a day milking for one cow!! And man it feels like a vacation! Only about 20 gallons of milk a week to manage is so much easier than 35-55 a week! Today's skim milk resulted in only 2 gallons of cream, but I'd already snuck some for cooking this week.

Dear friends and family, please keep Don Davis in your thoughts and prayers as he navigates this very difficult time, during which his wife has severely neglected him. This week he only received 1 homemade dinner and a half because really that other night we just had sandwiches. He has managed to keep up his strength through Coke Zeros and Habaneros. If you would like to donate a meal and invite him over please note he is rather particular. Thank you for your care and concern.
PS. He is fully capable of making his own sausage and eggs, but sometimes the responsibility of feeding himself is just too much.

Today after working, running errands, running to most of the farm stands, working again, milking in the dark, and probably 4,000 phone calls, I was sharing with a friend that I was preparing for a lot of things happening this weekend. And she asked me...Do you enjoy doing all this stuff?? And I said "Friend, we were clearly raised by different people, because my life's mantras have been "I'll rest when I'm dead", "To those whom much has been given, much is expected." And in the words of BC Ross the III (my dad)"Quit wasting time and Let's get this s**t done." ... Joy is in a job well done.
