Writing Workshop:
Storytelling food and memory
Led by our co-founder

Sowing Stories: Memory in the Soil;
A Storytelling Circle on Land, Food, and Memory

This title calls-in a sacred reciprocity on how land holds our stories, how food becomes a tool for remembering, and how our own shared experiences lead us back to our origins as an act of resistance.

“Memory in the Soil” draws on not only internal teachings across the diaspora, but ideals that amplify our food as not only being sustenance, but living memory embedded deep in our DNA.

Participants will:
- Center personal and ancestral experiences of land and food.
-Explore the intersection of free writing, cultural survival, and community and familial sovereignty.
-Use storytelling as a tool for memory activation.
-Create one piece of shared or personal storytelling (journal entry, poem, or scene).

Together we will explore how memory lives within the body, the soil, and the stories we carry across generations. The gathering is accessible by taking the 1 train to 242nd Street.

There was a time before Instagram, and there will be a time after.

This essay explores what we relearn when we step away from our compulsive relationship to social media. The stillness of growth. The unraveling and unlearning of old shells.

This Sagittarius Blue Moon is a rare occurrence. It invites us to ask: what else happens once in a blue moon? What can we access in the space of rarity?

The Sagittarius archer aims toward something distant, toward reinvention and possibility. And in true Scorpio fashion, I find myself asking:

What needs to die for that future to become possible?

For those navigating change, releasing old identities, building new worlds, or simply learning how to be present again.

What happens after revolution?

What happens when land is no longer treated as property, but as shared responsibility?

Join us this Sunday at Ceiba Valley Farm for an interactive political education workshop exploring collectivist farming models across history and around the world — from Cuba, to Chiapas, to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy — and examine what alternative economic systems can teach us about community, land stewardship, and survival beyond capitalism.

Together, we will study:

🌱Land redistribution after communist revolutions
🌽Food sovereignty movements
🌾Collectivist agricultural systems
🏘️Socialism as a transitional framework toward communism
🤲🏾The sacrifices, contradictions, and possibilities within anti-capitalist organizing

But this is not just a lecture.

This workshop is also a collective thought exercise:
Are we truly prepared to share resources, land, labor, and responsibility in a post-capitalist world?

Participants will engage in group discussion, multimedia learning, political materials, and a guided land tour connecting these ideas directly to the realities of farming, ecology, and mutual aid.

Sunday, May 31st
1 PM – 4 PM
At Ceiba Valley Farm
Sliding Scale: $10–$30
Ages 13+

🚨RAFFLE ALERT ENDING JUNE.1st 🚨

Crafted through playful explorations of kitchen ingredients and food waste, each piece reflects an evolving relationship with impermanence. By allowing the materials to shift and change over time, this lamp invites us to see objects as living participants within our spaces.

To help raise funds for our farm, programming, and future land down payment, we’re partnering with artists to offer one-of-a-kind pieces through our raffle series. 🌱

How to enter:
• Make a minimum $5 donation to our anytime during the month of May
• Every additional $5 donation counts as an extra entry
• One winner will be randomly selected and announced on June 1st
