We’re only human—we make mistakes!! But we’re sure you’ll appreciate this one. Today while taking a peak at our LAC Hives, we noticed that several of them had full boxes of capped honey, ready to harvest. Rather than waste the day doing other farm work, we decided to “make hay while the sun shines.” We fired up all the equipment, sanitized the tools, and...Yada, yada, yada.. Honey went into jars!!

This stuff is light, sweet and floral—original tasting notes were “clover with a vanilla and marshmallow after taste.” This is an exclusive harvest solely from our Lower Alloways Creek hives and features our new label for 2026. There’s a catch though..

The only way to get some is to visit us this weekend at one of our in person events. Support Swazey Farms and other local vendors during these two events:

This weekend was the third month of the Swazey Farms BEE My Mentor program. And despite the rain, our mentees got open their hives and complete an inspection. We determined all of our colonies were Queen right and hauling in tons of nectar which they were actively capping. Some brood patterns were better than others but it was great for our students to be able to compare the productivity of different colonies and take note of what it takes to set them straight.

After some field work we moved into the Loft for a class on Inetegrated Pwat Management (IPM) which, while not seeing, is a crucial aspect of being a successful beekeeper.

Everyone is looking forward to a much DRIER (hopefully) class next month when we will once again check brood patterns and consider adding supers to our colonies. Shout out to Brooke for taking the photos and to our mentees for putting in the hardwork..THIS is the future of beekeeping!

This week Swazey Farms proudly hosted the Pioneer Kids Homeschool Group who got an upclose look at our bees preparing for the honey harvest. It was a morning filled with amazing questions from some of the most inquisitive kids we've ever met! Our brave visitors even suited up and got to hold a frame of bees who were working on capping some honey for us. And we saved the best for last--a WORLD CLASS honey tasting with samplings from around the globe! We learned why all Honey tastes different and what gives each their distinctive flavors. Thank you Patti, parents and ALL the Pioneer Kids for a memorable morning with the bees! Happy World Bee Day to you all! Our bees spent their special day preparing for the impending 4 days worth of rain that we are due to receieve. And sadly, with that, I must report that MEAT AND MEAD Fest for this weekend 5/23 has been canceled due to rain. We were stoked to see you all there but alas, the weather will not cooperate.

But to make up for it, Swazey Farms will be hosting a Barnyard Social: Honey and Mead tasting! This exclusive event will only be open to subscribers of our website so if you aren’t already, get on SwazeyFarms.com and subscribe to stay updated on the latest events.

We were FLOORED by this one! In just a weeks time this swarm moved in and created a healthy amount of new comb which they were loading with nectar, pollen and eggs. Thankfully the homeowner contacted Swazey Farms to have them humanely removed and relocated. Rather than leave a drywall mess, we elected to go through the hardwood floor which left the room virtually untouched once we were done. During the removal, the Queen was located and safely transported with a bucket of her workers back to the farm and into their new home. Ohh, AND we found the botched remnants of a prior removal by another beekeeper (not as clean) 😉 that these bees were trying to access. Got it all cleaned up though!! Thanks to Nicole Mazzitelli for the help AND to Angel for allowing us to handle his bee removal.

When we started keeping bees years ago, we dabbled in mead making..but it was always missing something. So we set out to taste the greatest honey wine that bees and man could collaborate to make. That quest is OVER! Look no further than our friends at Liquid Alchemy Beverages in Wilmington, DE for the finest meads you’ve ever tasted. UPDATE!! THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. Oh the places you'll go...for BEES! This swarm collection in Woodbury was called in by Anne. She astutely noticed a swarm attach themselves precariously to the third floor trim of her very old home. Most beekeepers look at the height of this swarm and think (smartly)--no way! But then Josue reminds me why we bought a 32ft. Ladder in the first place, which was to rescue bees. Yay! Next step, decide who's climbing said ladder (Randy drew the short straw). So up I go, cautiously vacuuming every Bee as the sun fades behind me. When all was said and done, this massive swarm weighed in at about 8lbs and had drawn out several sections of open air comb which they had begun to fill with pollen. After a short ride back to the farm they were promptly installed on some drawn comb where the Queen was spotted before closing the lid. We REALLY appreciate Anne contacting Swazey Farms for this relocation and look forward to caring for this Woodbury Wonder-Colony. Bee well!
