We finally have water on our new beds!

We still have more to go but today I finally was able to get the last row of sprinklers in and test it out.

Everything worked perfectly! Rows were saturated evenly and just in time for the heat wave this week.

Next up will be a similar design for the new flower plot.

We are fenced in! This took a ton of work and time to get done but this is an absolutely necessary step here at our farm where the wildlife is abundant.

Next we can finally get some plants in the ground and know they won’t be eaten the next day. We are WAY behind with planting as you can see these fields are empty and this will definitely affect our market this year. Couple that with how dry it’s been and the hot and cold weather and it has certainly been a tricky spring.

Our cover crops are finally all crimped and tarped and will hopefully be ready to be planted in the coming weeks. While we hope to make the first Milton Farmers market there is a strong chance we will have nothing available the first few weeks.

Happy Earth Day!

It has been a very productive and busy spring this year at the farm and finally yesterday I finished our garden expansion! I added on 20 garden beds this year bringing us to a total of 30 beds we are now farming.

Now to get it all fenced in and get to planting! This has gotten me a bit behind schedule with some crops but will help with having more available in the future.

Happy first day of spring! 🌷🌱🌞

The farm is starting to come to life with the shift of the seasons. We have been expanding the gardens building a few new beds. The cover crops have come back with a beautiful shade of green and the garlic begins to pop from the soil and start its spring time stretch.

While some of the unexpected projects still linger from the harsh winter like this old hoop-house that collapsed from a heavy snow load. Today was a lovely day to get it cleaned up and ready for the new potential it will provide in the future season. Cheers to a happy spring!

Garden is getting set for winter!

Two weeks ago I planted our garlic crop for 2026 and I’m already starting to see it peek through our straw mulch. This will get a bit of growth now and then really take off in the spring and be ready for harvest in June.

Cover crops taking off!
As we go into fall we are cover cropping some of our older beds to help rebuild nutrients in the soil over winter to help prepare for summer. Cover crops serve multiple benefits for us over winter from w**d prevention to moisture retention as well as a green manure come spring.

Unfortunately we won’t be able to make the last Milton Farmers and Artisan market today. We did not have enough crops to really bring to market.

As the season has slowed down so have the crops and harvests. But we have had a great season and learned a lot this year. We tried our best to snap a photo of the table at each market from May to September to help keep track of the flow of the season.

Now it’s back to the drawling board while it’s fresh on our mind to reflect on a great season and find ways to improve for next year. Thank you to everyone who supported us at the market this year and we hope to see you next year!

The flowers have been looking absolutely beautiful and bringing in some lovely visitors over the past months. I went to take some photos with my nice camera and this Eastern Tiger Swallowtail stopped by to pose.

This year I’ve been experimenting with using silage tarps more often and have found them to be a great tool added to the collection.

When a crop is finished or has gotten too large I will “ chop and drop” the remaining plant material in place and cover it with a tarp.

The tarp begins to speed up the decomposition stage and almost melts the plant material away in a matter of two weeks by promoting a healthy environment for the plant material to break down.

After these two weeks I remove the remaining plant material and give a light tilth to the top layer of soil and replant the next crop.

Hopeful to bring a small amount of fresh lettuce to market next week in the middle of august!

One thing you don’t see much on instagram is the crop failures from farmers. But I think it’s important to recognize those mistakes as lessons you won’t forget.

This year’s lesson was one I already knew about but failed to follow the rules and did not put down drip tape irrigation due to being behind with other projects.

Because of this our tomatoes only option was to get over head watering. Combined with humid warm nights this was a perfect recipe for fungal & disease issues.

Combine that with my lack of preventative maintenance and that’s exactly what happened.

Now we got some tomatoes but I lost all our tomatoes other than the Sungold cherry tomatoes by August which has never happened to me before.

What a lesson this one was.

Was a hot one today but it hasn’t slowed down the crops! The peppers are starting to really set in now, both the shish*tos and jalapeños are overflowing. Cucumbers are plentiful, and we are getting lots of beautiful flowers weekly. Battling w**ds feels endless, but it’s all worth it for the summer produce.
