Info bit: When purchasing a complete feed, such as 16% layer, and mixing it with a lesser protein feed like cracked corn, the protein content becomes diluted for your flock. An analogous scenario is mixing a sports drink using powder, where following the instructions of 16oz water per scoop and adding 24oz results in a weak taste due to dilution from the intended concentration. It is essential to remember that incomplete feeds, such as cracked corn and scratch feed, serve as treats rather than replacements for complete nutrition.

Most laying hens experience a decline in egg production during hot weather, primarily due to reduced feed intake caused by heat stress. NHFarms layer mash incorporates Full Fat roasted beans as the primary protein source, enabling intervention through enhanced feed metabolizing. Our feed achieves this through two key mechanisms:

Lower Heat Increment: Metabolizing dietary fat generates significantly less body heat compared to carbohydrates and proteins, thereby reducing the hen's internal heat load and facilitating heat tolerance during hot weather.

Increased Energy Density: When hens are heat-stressed, their feed intake decreases naturally. Full-fat beans are highly energy-dense, compensating for reduced intake.

All of the grain that we utilize in our feeds is processed through our Seed Cleaner to eliminate chaff, debris, and fines, resulting in clean grains. By exclusively utilizing cleaned grains, even in ground feeds, we ensure that our recipes maintain consistency in terms of protein, fat, and fiber content. This is one of the many steps we take in manufacturing our feeds. We take pride in the quality of our feed and its performance.

Q: Why don’t you offer a higher protein layer feed? A: Our unique approach leverages full fat roasted beans as a protein source, eliminating the need for higher protein content. This innovative strategy achieves remarkable feed efficiency, as the increased fat content 'spares' protein, directing more nutrients toward egg production. Furthermore, our feed boasts a balanced nutritional profile, rich in linoleic acid, vitamin E, and niacin, essential for optimal laying hen health. Think of our feed as the difference between a nourishing home-cooked meal and a fast-food alternative – both may meet basic nutritional needs, but one clearly provides superior benefits.
