Breed feature: Birchen Marans from us involve the combining of two lines in 2019. We purchased eggs from a breeder who had Greenfire Farm lines. The leg feathering was good, birds had good type & feathering, but the egg color was at the bottom of the chart for Marans. The second breeder supplied us with very dark eggs from a “Harvey Moore line that has never been crossed out.” By blending these two we hoped to create a flock of birds with good type, color & leg feathering, and improved egg color. We are making strides but still working on selectively hatching the bigger, darker eggs, and keeping the chicks with best leg feathers. A couple more generations to go for consistency.

Mixed bag Silkies - I’ve black and blue Silkie roosters over black, black split to paint, & blue buff hens. In the same pen there’s a white Silkie heterozygous for melanism, a red Cochin bantam, a blue Satin naked neck and a partridge Satin. An incubator full of surprises here!
