The most tedious part of prickly pears are the thorns. The big ones are easy enough to avoid, but those tiny little hairs, the glochids, are hard to see. You sure can feel them though! The easiest way to deal with them is to singe them off with an open flame.
As someone who likes fire though, it sure is satisfying watching those little flare ups 🔥
