If you’re on the hunt for a properly filthy martini and a happy hour that actually delivers, is worth the stop. It’s just one of those charming, slightly tucked-away spots that feels a little special for that part of town.

I’m a Tuesday regular for their all-day happy hour (you really can’t beat it), and their pizza by the slice is exactly what you want with a drink in hand. Perfect for a casual date night or a girls night, whether you grab a table on the cute patio under the string lights or post up at the bar (my go-to).

Their filthy martini is extra briny (the way it should be), and I always swap the vodka for gin—highly recommend if you like it a little more complex.

If you’re going outside of happy hour, don’t skip the food—the Caesar and arugula salads are both solid and balance things out just enough to justify another martini or one of their seasonal cocktails.

An unexpected find in Southtown: King William Wine Company.

The experience strikes a rare balance—affordable yet elevated, refined without feeling exclusive. What sets it apart is the intention behind it. The owner, who refers to himself as a storyteller, guides guests through the space with thoughtful detail, sharing the narratives behind each wine and occasionally selecting bottles to highlight in a more personal way.

Tonight’s pick: Emilio Moro, Finca Tempranillo 2022 from their Women in Wine series… and of course, there was a story. According to the lore, Emilio’s wife lost her vision to glaucoma, so he made sure their labels include braille.

That specific version of the story floats around in tastings and wine culture, but it’s not widely documented as the primary reason. The confirmed origin is more about a broader commitment to accessibility and inclusion after working with the blind community. After participating in a charity event for people who are blind, the Moro family decided to make their wines more accessible. That’s when they committed to adding braille so visually impaired customers could independently identify the wine.

Bottom line:
I didn’t just stumble into a pretty wine bar—I landed in a place that curates stories and experiences. That’s a rare treat here in San Antonio, but no surprise a spot like this calls Southtown home.

Swung by Friday night to support .johnson in his efforts to kickstart his new album. If you haven’t heard of him, highly recommend checking him out.

Tried a few cocktails as well. The Rosemary Branch is my go-to, but the Lyla’s Elixar was new to me.

Would you try either of these?

ROSEMARY BRANCH
Aviation Gin, Fresh Grapefruit, Fresh Lemon, Rosemary Infused Simple, Fee Foam, Garnished with Caramelized Orange & Rosemary.

LYLA’S ELIXAR
Condesa Prickly Pear & Orange Blossum Gin, Crème de Violette, Gran Gala, Lemon, Agave Nectar, Rhubarb Bitters

P L U M W I L D

I hadn’t been to since last summer and had been missing it. A friend was playing with his bad so it was the perfect opportunity to swing by.

This was my first time having the Plum Wild, which they describe as “an expression straight from our resident oregon cowpoke” and I was instantly smitten. When visiting a spot for the first time or with an updated menu, I rarely order the same drink twice so I can sample the selection, but this was a repeater for me.

With Rye, tempus fugit, crème de cacao, lemon, plum syrup, and a white wine cold foam, this is easily one of my favorite drinks. It is on the sweeter side, but the Rye balances that nicely and the cold foam smooths it out.

Have you had this one yet?

Quick stop in New Orleans on the way home from Florida. Our plans didn’t go…according to plan.

The was next to our hotel so we stopped by for late-night shrimp and grits. I’ve been to NOLA before and even the chain or touristy restaurants have great food.

The Tonic Thyme Temptress was a great Gin cocktail with lots of botanical flavors, and you can’t go wrong with a Mojito.

Until next time, NOLA. 🖤

Of all the traveling I’ve done in this lifetime, I can’t believe it took me this long to cross the southern border. Mexico was fantastic and I can’t wait to go back soon!

S U P P E R at Emma

Supper has quickly become one of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat. Typically I like to sit at the bar, but I have a soft spot for the old wooden booths in the dining area.

This trip was spent at the bar trying a variety of what they had to offer. Not one thing disappointed. The bartenders are kind and knowledgeable and hit it out of the park every time.

Pro tip: order the risotto with a side of bavette steak. 🤌🏻

While it’s a little farther north than I typically adventure, I do enjoy this spot when I have the chance to stop by.

Don’t let “bourbon” in the name fool you, the cocktail menu has something for everyone.

I’ll be out here tonight to see .johnson play a set. Come say hi!

This bar in Southtown is one of my favorites. I’ve been a regular since I moved to Texas in 2022 and they just recently updated their cocktail menu. The bartenders here are skilled and willing to make you your favorite classic or surprise you with something new.

The food here is even better than you’d imagine and the kitchen is open late. They have a great happy hour and weekly specials as well.

If you’re looking for a semi casual date night spot or a local neighborhood bar, LibertyBar checks it off the list.

This hidden gem has always been a nice spot, but now that it’s under new management the vibes are more in line with what I expected.

I was able to try some new offerings from their summer menu, but they still have my favorites on hand.

I recommend swinging by if you’re looking for a low key cocktail spot with live music.
