If you’re on the hunt for a properly filthy martini and a happy hour that actually delivers, is worth the stop. It’s just one of those charming, slightly tucked-away spots that feels a little special for that part of town.

I’m a Tuesday regular for their all-day happy hour (you really can’t beat it), and their pizza by the slice is exactly what you want with a drink in hand. Perfect for a casual date night or a girls night, whether you grab a table on the cute patio under the string lights or post up at the bar (my go-to).

Their filthy martini is extra briny (the way it should be), and I always swap the vodka for gin—highly recommend if you like it a little more complex.

If you’re going outside of happy hour, don’t skip the food—the Caesar and arugula salads are both solid and balance things out just enough to justify another martini or one of their seasonal cocktails.

An unexpected find in Southtown: King William Wine Company.

The experience strikes a rare balance—affordable yet elevated, refined without feeling exclusive. What sets it apart is the intention behind it. The owner, who refers to himself as a storyteller, guides guests through the space with thoughtful detail, sharing the narratives behind each wine and occasionally selecting bottles to highlight in a more personal way.

Tonight’s pick: Emilio Moro, Finca Tempranillo 2022 from their Women in Wine series… and of course, there was a story. According to the lore, Emilio’s wife lost her vision to glaucoma, so he made sure their labels include braille.

That specific version of the story floats around in tastings and wine culture, but it’s not widely documented as the primary reason. The confirmed origin is more about a broader commitment to accessibility and inclusion after working with the blind community. After participating in a charity event for people who are blind, the Moro family decided to make their wines more accessible. That’s when they committed to adding braille so visually impaired customers could independently identify the wine.

Bottom line:
I didn’t just stumble into a pretty wine bar—I landed in a place that curates stories and experiences. That’s a rare treat here in San Antonio, but no surprise a spot like this calls Southtown home.

Swung by Friday night to support .johnson in his efforts to kickstart his new album. If you haven’t heard of him, highly recommend checking him out.

Tried a few cocktails as well. The Rosemary Branch is my go-to, but the Lyla’s Elixar was new to me.

Would you try either of these?

ROSEMARY BRANCH
Aviation Gin, Fresh Grapefruit, Fresh Lemon, Rosemary Infused Simple, Fee Foam, Garnished with Caramelized Orange & Rosemary.

LYLA’S ELIXAR
Condesa Prickly Pear & Orange Blossum Gin, Crème de Violette, Gran Gala, Lemon, Agave Nectar, Rhubarb Bitters

P L U M W I L D

I hadn’t been to since last summer and had been missing it. A friend was playing with his bad so it was the perfect opportunity to swing by.

This was my first time having the Plum Wild, which they describe as “an expression straight from our resident oregon cowpoke” and I was instantly smitten. When visiting a spot for the first time or with an updated menu, I rarely order the same drink twice so I can sample the selection, but this was a repeater for me.

With Rye, tempus fugit, crème de cacao, lemon, plum syrup, and a white wine cold foam, this is easily one of my favorite drinks. It is on the sweeter side, but the Rye balances that nicely and the cold foam smooths it out.

Have you had this one yet?
