Bruce gets his babies. :) Bruce is a 14 year-old Brown Chinese gander. He lost his mate (Gertrude) early last Spring; however, he still wants those babies.

Brown Chinese geese are loud and obnoxious. Yet, they are the best of parents. We expect a storm later this evening, and Bruce will herd those babies into the barn. They're too little for the pond, so he'll take them to the creek. And, don't get too close. He'll not bite you but he will sn**ch a pinch of skin and twist, twist, twist. lol...

GOLDEN PHEASANT: The first decent size batch of Golden Pheasant have hatched and are now in the brooder. Pickup as early as tomorrow, Friday, May 15th. :)

A little milestone this morning. :) Counting the bantams that I've pulled from the hatcher this morning, I've now crossed the 40,000 hatchling mark... the number since keeping records in 2014. 🥰

When I first started this little venture, I thought I'd sell perhaps a maximum of 400 chicks each. Well, I was off by a bit. It is a enjoyable hobby. :)

Golden Pheasant: I hatch a great many chicks... 1,737 so far this year. But some are special and that includes golden pheasant and frizzled cochin bantams. Well, today, I moved the first decent size batch to the hatcher. :) Can't wait to see the little creatures running around in the brooder.

My hatch rates aren't the best in the world, but some hens are 10 years old. Yeah, that's old but they are sweet creatures. :)

The very first peachick for the year. There's always something special about that first peachick. Looks like an India Blue, wild pattern, probably male. :) We'll wait to see what he looks like once dried and fluffed.

I'm getting older and have decided to start cutting back a little each year. Last year, I discontinued carrying guineas and didn't renew my turkey breeders. :( However, I will get a few eggs from my old heritage Bronze ladies this year. How many they'll lay and how many will hatch? No clue. But they have started laying.

Good news though. Two of my young red golden pheasant hens have started laying early. :)

Brown Chinese Geese: Just set my first batch of Brown Chinese goose eggs for the year. Hatch date April 6th at 12:45 PM. :)

I also collected one pea-egg and one pheasant-egg yesterday evening. Still a little early for them but perhaps they'll come a little early?

Still no turkey eggs. But I'm expecting them to start laying this coming week. :)

Yeah, it may be a few days before the average last freeze, but it looks like Spring might have sprung around the Roberts Farm. The plum tree is blooming and we have plenty of baby chicks in the brooder. :)

I'm excited, the older that I get, the longer winter seems to be. :(
