Cactus Farms LLC

Cactus Farms LLC We grow crops and raise animals in an all natural way. Cactus Farms is what is called, here in Deep South Texas, a "Ranchito." We farm and pasture 40 acres.

We raise cattle, hold a few horses, a wonderful Chocolate Labrador, who seems to get along with our chickens, and grow a variety of vegetables. Our specialty is okra, but we also grow a lot of tomatoes, onions, melons, and hot peppers. As we go along, we will add many more so check back to see what is growing. we do not use herbicides, insecticides (other than natural control like BT), chemical fe

rtilizers (we do use humic acid which is a natural product harvested from ancient peat beds), we produce our own compost and use composted animal waste to condition our soil. Our land has never been farmed before but has been used for cattle range for many years so the soil is naturally rich and black.

We were so proud of Sunny because she ignored the chickens. She has recently discovered that they are really good to play with so when one is loose, especially overnight, she want to play. Not sure how we will correct that but we are trying.

In early June we got 30 baby chicks - 15 Rhode Island Reds and 15 New Hampshire Reds. I am relieved that Sunny ignores them but they are spooky around her. Should start laying in a few more months

Thigs are busy here. We got a new puppy to take the place of Chocolate. Poor Chocolate (our Labrador) developed a taste for chickens, both ours and a neighbor and friend, half a mile away. She had to go and we missed having a dog. So we got Sunny, an American German Shephard. Pictures to come soon.

Last Saturday evening, the Tip O Texas Family Outreach Center held a fundraiser. Since Maricela works there teaching parenting classes, she was on duty as a volunteer. In the silent auction, some lucky person bought a whole basket of our products. Whenever you can, please support the Family Outreach Center. The are truly doing The Lord's Work, helping families with every sort of service. Donations are always appreciated. They are close to the Brownsville Farmers' Market, at 5th and Levee.
