Inspired by Amma, made by me: I get my love and flair for cooking from my grandmother and mother! So it’s only natural that with Amma staying with us, I am feeling inspired again to play in the kitchen and let the food talk to me and tell me what to create!

🌿 Flavors Worth Discovering | Elai Vadam

Some of my favorite food memories don’t come from elaborate meals.

They come from simple rituals.

Like waiting for my grandmother to steam fresh Elai Vadam on banana leaves... and patiently peeling each one before taking that first warm bite.

Today, many families sun-dry Elai Vadam to enjoy later as a light, crispy accompaniment to a meal. But this fresh version—soft, fragrant, and infused with the subtle aroma of banana leaves—will always be my favorite.

These are the kinds of traditions I hope to preserve and share through Masala On My Mind. Not just because they’re delicious, but because every recipe carries a memory, a place, and a story worth passing on.

✨ What’s a food tradition from your childhood that instantly takes you back?

🍫 Today is World Chocolate Day, and it felt like the perfect time to share one of the very first brands we chose for Masala On My Mind.

Experiencing SMOORLAND was a reminder that the best brands don’t just make great products—they create moments of curiosity, connection, and delight.

That’s exactly what we’re looking for as we build Masala On My Mind.

We don’t just stock shelves.
We fill them with stories worth sharing.
Every product on our shelves earns its place.

Here’s to discovering food a little differently.

✨ What food experience has stayed with you long after the last bite?

For years, this child survived on approximately 5 approved foods! 😅

So watching him voluntarily bake brownies for his school maker class feels a little surreal.

One thing I’ve realized while building Masala On Mind: food curiosity rarely starts with pressure. It starts with exposure — watching people cook, being around flavors, seeing experimentation happen in everyday life.

And somewhere along the way, even the pickiest eaters start getting curious too.

A little exposure.
A little experimentation.
Masala Minded.

This Mother’s Day, I found myself thinking about the women who shaped me through food, care, tradition, resilience, and love.

A simple meal can carry so much memory.

Today, I recreated flavors from my grandmother and mom’s kitchen — Tomato rice and added my daughter’s favorite roasted potatoes, because every generation leaves its own imprint.

For me, food has always been the thread connecting generations.

What’s something you share with your mother or the women who raised you? 🤍

A little thoughtful. A little playful. Masala Minded.

Not everything needs a recipe.
Sometimes you just need a little curiosity… and a spoon.

Play with ingredients—skip the refined sugar.
Try monk fruit, dates, or coconut sugar.

Add your favorite flavors. I kept it vanilla (making this with my kids), but honestly—this is where you make it your own.

The most fun?
Making white chocolate and topping it with everything from dried flowers to nuts and seeds 🌸

Even better—get your kids involved.
Especially if it’s a little homemade gift for mom or their favorite teacher 💛
Mix it up. Make it yours. Masala Minded.
Now your turn—what did you try? Share it with me ❤️
