In April 2015, some of our first mass produced cannabis coffees were making their way to the 215 shops in San Diego and Los Angeles.

At that point we were producing on the top floor of San Diego’s old City Hall in the historic gaslamp Quarter.

The building was old and the floor of the room we set aside for production sloped so aggressively that we had to modify our filling table in order to prevent bottles from literally sliding off the table.

My partner Elvis and I we’re coming off six years of lies and redirects from our other partner in our first drink company, Remedy, which was founded in 2008. In 2014 that dude finally vanished for good taking our investment, his formulas, and the majority of both of our life savings with him.

Today, almost a decade later, that guy has yet to resurface.

Unfortunately, by the late ‘oughts, this type of story was not uncommon.

When in 2014 we finally had a way forward for Remedy with some deep pockets lining up to build us a production facility, that third partner never showed up to that investor meeting, and was quite literally never heard from again.

And so goes the twisted tale of early cannabis manufacturing in california’s emerging legal market.

2008. We were first.

When we made our first cannabis coffees under the name Remedy, they were the first cannabis coffee on the market. The first production-level beverage in the largest cannabis market the world over.

Now, nearly 15 years later, we are still here. We still intend to go multi-state. We still know we make the best tasting, healthiest, most potent Cannabinoid infused drinks in the world.

Best. Cannabis. Drinks. Ever.

While other companies were working towards cheap, flavorless knockoffs of alcoholic beverages and seltzers, we committed ourselves to Frappuccino style beverages made with all organic ingredients and no preservatives.

Producing a safe pasteurized, low acidity, cream-based product is very difficult. Fact is we were the first to do it and it was the first beverage of its kind in the US cannabis marketplace. The low acidity, combined with the milk fat created an environment that protected the potency of the cannabinoids while at the same time increasing efficacy and bioavailability.

We worked with centuries old recipes for mulling wine and modified those recipes to accommodate our one-of-a-kind cannabis coffees and teas.

What we have here is a little bit of history folks. Petra boxes - pre-regulation.

Included here are two flavors that were never released, Pineapple and Lemon Grass. For a little while back then it seemed we might have been in a position to work together in some capacity outside of our joint political activities through the CCIA.

For all kinds of crazy reasons, that didn’t happen. You can read the book.

In the meantime, consider all the incredible products that will never see the light of day. Consider all the big ideas and great brands that have come and gone. In an industry over taxed and overburdened by regulation, authenticity has been mostly usurped by the types of companies that can afford to lose millions annually, year over year, in an effort to extinguish competition.

For every Kiva, there are dozens of brands, built on both passion and invention, that are no longer with us today.
