I've got good news and bad news.

Good news first: school starts tomorrow!

Bad news: we aren't ready for the first day!

We are going to take this last day of summer to shop school supplies; wash uniforms; and start a new family tradition of baking cookies for the first day.

We will be back at the Santee Certified Farmer's Market next week and Backroads Certified Farmers Market next Saturday.

Edit: there seems to be some concern over my sanitary practices and feeding my birds... so to clarify a couple things.

1st: The eggs were washed. We use a citric acid solution that breaks up the grime. These eggs were cracked or were floaters and not something I was going to feed my kids. The spots someone pointed out are extra calcium deposits. Lots of eggs get them and we have seen more in the increased heat.

2nd: The broiler chickens we have are not great foragers and honestly not very smart. If we toss them whole eggs they won't touch them. There was too many to spent the time cracking for bird food.

Oh, and the chickens still weren't sure about the eggs so the ducks and a possum ate them.

Trying something new, hopefully they don't explode in my oven.

Feed cost for the broilers is getting too high. All these eggs were cracked and would have been turkey or dog food anyway. The chickens won't eat them raw, so the thought is they will eat them cooked. I am just going to crush these and offer in a bowl.

ITS TOO HOT!!

We will not be shipping again until it cools down. Luckily looks like its going to drop next week.

Personally, I am impressed the girls are still laying. Though maybe I just jinxed that. 😆
