Merlot and Merlot Blends Tasting

October 16 - 17

Join us this Friday and Saturday to explore the world of Merlot. Merlot is celebrated for its lush red-fruit flavors (cherry, plum, raspberry), supple and smooth tannins, and rounded, approachable texture. Because of its softer structure, it is frequently used on its own or as a key player in classic and experimental red blends worldwide. In Bordeaux, Merlot dominates Saint-Émilion and Pomerol blends (often paired with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon), providing roundness and lower tannins compared to Left Bank Cab-heavy w**e. In Napa Valley and Columbia Valley, it stands by itself or is used in Bordeaux-style Meritage blends often paired with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah for deep dark-fruit, mocha, and oak-aged complexity.

We will be pouring four domestic and two Bordeaux Merlot or Merlot blends from Napa Valley, Columbia Valley and Bordeaux. We will also be pouring an optional higher-end Merlot from the legendary Leonetti Cellars, namely their 2022 Merlot.

Be sure to bring some food (or pick-up from the surrounding restaurants) as most all w**es will show much better with food.

Normal Friday tasting hours are 3pm to 6pm. Saturday tasting hours are 10:30am to 3:00pm. If the w**es have not run out by 3:00pm on Saturday, they will continue to be poured until 5:15pm.

Six Tastes: $20

Napa Valley Cabernet Tasting

September 18 - 19

Join us this Friday and Saturday for a another excellent Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon tasting. Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is widely considered the benchmarking standard for New World Cabernet Sauvignon, generally known for its full-bodied structure and rich fruit profile. And the six examples that we have for you this week really highlight the essence of good Napa Valley Cabernet. W**es are from top-notch vintages, namely 2019, 2021 and 2023. Four of these Cabs are from the superb 2023 vintage, which is celebrated as a classic, late-harvest year across the valley. Cooler overall temperatures allowed for full, extended maturity and incredible aromatic complexity without excessive alcohol levels. We are putting out new 2023 Napa Cabs on a regular basis, so make sure you get a chance to try a few of these excellent w**es.

We will also be pouring an optional high-end Napa Valley Cabernet, namely the 2019 Anakota Helena Montana Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. We normally sell this w**e for $175, but this weekend we are offering it, and its sibling, the Helena Dakota Vineyard Cabernet, for the in-store price of only $139.95/btl. Both w**es have 99 Point scores from independent reviewers.

Pinot Noir of the World

This Friday and Saturday we’ll be pouring a broad selection of Pinot Noir from around the World. The three imports include a Burgundy, a Spätburgunder from Germany and a Central Otago Pinot Noir from New Zealand. In the domestic corner we have a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and two Sonoma County Pinot Noirs. You can purchase any of these w**es on our website.

We will also be pouring an optional 99-Point Wayfarer single-vineyard (“The Traveler”) Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Only 3 bottles left for sale.

2018 Hickinbotham

“The Peake” Cabernet-Shiraz

This is another exceptional w**e from Hickinbotham with perfect storage in a distributor’s warehouse. The 2018 Hickinbotham “The Peake” Cabernet-Shiraz is the premier w**e from Hickinbotham and comes from the historic Clarendon Vineyard in McLaren Vale, Australia. Planted in 1971, this vineyard is famous for producing highly elegant and balanced w**es. A long-time grower, Hickinbotham started to bottle its own w**e in 2012. Previously, some of its famous McLaren Vale Shiraz grapes were sold to Penfolds and blended into the legendary Grange. The Peake is named in honor of Edward John Peake who planted the first vineyard in McLaren Vale in 1850. The blend consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Shiraz.

As soon as we tasted this w**e, we made an offer to take it all and best of all was the price. The LOWEST online price is $185 with an MRSP of $229 and we have it at less than 1/3 of MSRP. The only issue was the quantity available, this will go fast and you don’t want to miss it. Snagging a 99-point flagship w**e normally priced close to $200 for $74.95 is a no-brainer buy if you enjoy premium Australian reds.
