This week we are heading back to France to taste wines imported by . See you at 5 tonight! We'll.have special items on the menu as well.
Les Enfants Sauvages “ Bouche du Soleil”
Carolin and Nikolaus Bantlin farm 25 year old Muscat vines organically in Fitou, Roussillon clay and limestone soils, dry farmed, sun drenched. They give the grapes extended skin contact, which builds texture and structure instead of going for the typical Muscat perfume. This wine tastes like Meyer lemon, stone fruit, and has a waxy, almost lanolin like texture. Super mineral finish. Aged on lees, bottled unfined and unfiltered. It's elegant but not fussy. Serious but not stiff. Just a really well-made orange wine.
Les Enfants Sauvages “ Che Chauvio”
Carolin and Nikolaus are also growing Cinsault and Syrah on the high altitude limestone and marble of the Fitou hills. They are dry farming organically to keep things lean and bright. The grapes go through a short maceration to ensure a low alcohol wine, the goal is a pure, airy structure. This red feels very cool when you sip it, you get notes of crushed red berries and wild herbs on the palate, followed by a silky texture that finishes with nice clean minerality. The wine is aged in stainless steel and bottled with zero added sulfur.
Matthieu Barret “ Et La Banniere”
A few weeks back I had the opportunity to taste this wine at the T.Edwards trade tasting hosted at Penny Roma, this was hands down my favorite. Made from 100% Syrah from David Reynaud's biodynamic vineyard, this wine is pure magic in a bottle. The fruit on the nose is super intense and carries a fragrant rose note that almost seems to stick to the back of your mind. On the palate you find a juicy wine that still holds a lot of structure despite being super crushable. In the vineyard the grapes are hand harvested, and go through 10 days of carbonic maceration before being aged for 9 months in stainless steel.
