We take pride in cooking daily organic and mainly vegetarian meals from scratch to growing children of San Francisco. I, Emmet Grahn started Mumsa in August 2014 at the Scandinavian School in San Francisco where I had previously worked as a teacher for 3.5 years. Combining my experience from the food industry, being a teacher and my growing interest in nutrition, health and sustainability, Mumsa s
tarted to form. I see food and meal time, sitting down together around a table as one of the key ingredients when it comes to creating good and healthy habits around food. Something I learned from an early age back in Sweden where we always had dinner together and my mother made us tasty, nutritious meals with few ingredients every day. For the Scandinavian School, Mumsa provides breakfast, a warm lunch and snacks to 45 children and 15 adults. All meals are cooked in-house, food is more then just produce on a plate, it is the smells, the person in the kitchen cooking, the setting of the table. It is about the routines, taking pride in helping get utensils, about seeing the produce becoming a meal, taking turns being served, asking for seconds, trying new things and talking about the food on the plate.
