We've all been confused by them before... "best by", "use by", "enjoy by", "fresh through", "freeze by" and sometimes, even just a date with no words preceding it. These labels are confusing for consumers and also lead to a lot of unnecessary food waste.

California is combatting this issue by narrowing it down for manufacturers so there are only ways to share dates with consumers:
🍎 "best if used by" to inform peak quality
🍏 "use by" to communicate product safety

These new rules are hitting the shelves in July 2026! Learn more ⬇

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law AB 660, which will create consistency among packaged food labels regarding peak quality.

With summer travel in full swing, shop smart so you don't end up throwing away a fridge full of food before you hit the road! Here are a few tips to be efficient with your groceries:

🍉 Make a grocery list before you shop! Pro-tip: Use the notes app on your phone so you can edit and check off easily as you shop.
🍅 Utilize your freezer – you can freeze just about anything!*
🍓 Eat your leftovers. Chef them into something new like an omelet or a wrap to spice things up.
🍒 Not a leftover fan? Be sure to cook the correct portions for the servings needed for that meal so you don't end up with surplus food you don't want!
