Laughing Monk Brewing is a small batch craft brewery and taproom in San Francisco that blends traditions from California and Belgium with local, seasonal ingredients. Living in a place where you can go from diving on the coast to skiing in the mountains in one day, driving through forest, farms and desert you’d never see anywhere else, California is a place that grabs you by the shoulders, picks y

ou up and shouts “Get out there! That spirit of adventure is part of everything we do – from diving for abalone off the Sonoma coast to planting over a dozen different hops in our backyard in San Francisco to making great beer. We think of our beer as traditionally irreverent, rooted in the idea that exploration and change are the only constants. Ours began as beer fans growing up on the hoppy pales of California, but our curiosity didn’t let us stop there. We kept exploring the vast world of beer and, like many before us, found Belgium. Where California celebrates bright, citrusy, resiny hops, Belgium is all about subtle malt and expressive yeast. We draw from both these heritages to create uniquely delicious new beers. We chose our location here in the Bayview to live with fellow artists, chefs and creators who share our drive to craft, share and explore. Laughing Monk strives to be the hearth of our community here in Bayview, supporting projects from community gardens to public art. We believe that at the center of every community is that glass held high, bringing together locals and travelers alike to share stories and laughter over delicious beer.
