Hello Family Meal Friends & Mishpucha,

We are not delivering this week, so we are posting our Rosh Hashanah deliveries for Saturday 9/12.

57867 already! Where does the time fly?
When people ask if I’m an observant Jew I always say only on my parents side and only about the food.
Me and my “shiksa” wife just love preparing our Jewish soul food inspired meals. Our kids love it too.

These meals inspired by my childhood are always some of our most popular menus… So much so I’ve considered changing our catering company’s name to one of the following:
-Jewber Eats
-Grubschlub
-Door Dashkenazi
-Schlemiels On Wheels

-We can squeeze in some a la carte items to fill out your home cooking.

But seriously folks…Our Rosh Hashanah dance card is already full of private events and deliveries.

Hello Family Meal Friends,

A little housekeeping to start.
-We will only be able to deliver our Mediterranean Dinners this week on Thursday 8/27 and only in SF and all points Southbay/Peninsula
-Our Rosh Hashanah dance card is getting filled up with private events. At this point we might only be able to deliver on Saturday 9/12 but we are waiting on a confirmation for a private event that night. If it does not confirm, we will put out the menu next Sunday.

-We are booked on 9/3 & 9/4 so no deliveries that week.

Abbondanza is a word in the Italian language that means ‘abundance’, but it is much more than just a word, it is a celebration or salutation or at times even used to wish someone good luck as if to say “may your journey/venture/studies be bountiful.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Hello Family Meal Friends,

Sending out the menu early this week due to us catering tomorrow.

Remember a few weeks ago when we told you of our scary tire blowout on 280 while attempting deliveries?
I totally forgot one funny part of this…or at least I found it funny.
I’ve been showing GA some funny videos of cars that are broken down in strange places and people driving by them and shouting Hey, you can’t park there!
The car owners are never amused.
Well, when we were pulled over on the shoulder of 280 South, the AAA tow truck driver pulls over, gets out and says to me Hey, you can’t park there!
He was also a fan of these videos. Awesomely funny!
Anyway, I thought it was funny.

Hello Family Meal Friends,

When people learn that I am a chef, they inevitably ask the following questions:
1. What’s your specialty?
2. What’s your favorite food?
3. What’s your least favorite food?
My answers are usually as follows:
1. Whatever inspires me at the moment or season
2. Any food that somebody else cooks for me…Or fried chicken
3. Cooked salmon
I love raw, cured and smoked salmon but cooked salmon just doesn’t do it for me, especially when it is seared or grilled.
I looked at this as a challenge to create a salmon dish that made me literally eat my words.
One day, years ago I was walking through the prep area of a restaurant I was the chef at and on one side the butcher was cleaning a beautiful whole salmon. On the other side a cook was cleaning a case of fresh white corn and throwing the husks in the trash. A lightbulb went off and I decided to try wrapping the salmon in a fresh corn husk a la tamale style. I threw it in our wood burning oven and voila! It came out tender and toasty/sweet from the husk. It is now one of my favorite dishes. Challenge met!

Hello Family Meal Friends,

Anybody else a fan of The Bear?
Gotta say it gives us a bit of PTSD from our 30 years working in high pressure Michelin restaurants. It comes closer to getting it right than any other movie or tv show.
Our favorite scene in this final season was in the manic episode 7 when Tina calmly puts up her own dish after Carmy drops his lamb dish on the floor and has another panic attack. She puts up a beautiful dish of brussel sprouts and mint and tells the server: “Call it Family Meal”
GeorgeAnn and I looked at each other and smiled.
