EcoSecurity Utensil The safest and most humane disposable utensil for correctional, hospital, behavioral health, and addiction facilities.

According to CSP-SAC prison authorities in Folsom, California, “ESU is a safe alternative for inmates and mental health patients, providing a humane alternative to eating with fingers... For institutions with issues of misuse of utensils, EcoTensil offers a great alternative.”

The new ESU EcoSecurity™ Utensil, is made from a slick, moisture-resistant paperboard. In one fold, it becomes the perfect sturdy scoop for any soft or bite size foods, that don’t require cutting. Create greater level of safety with less cost:
٭ Prevents injury to staff, inmates or residents caused by sharpening plastic utensils.
٭ Helps prevent self-harm.
٭ Just one injury is likely to be more costly than years of EcoTensils use.
٭ More humane than fingers-only eating.
٭ Expands limited fingers-only menu to include more cost effective options.
٭ Can’t be used for “gassing.”
٭ Reduces hazerdous and expensive incidents such as "Lockdowns” and extractions
٭ Excellent Alternative Control tool for Ad.Seg, Special Programs, and High Risk Inmates/Patients.

As of July 1, Virginia has officially banned the use of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) by food vendors and government foodservice programs.

According to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality:

• EPS takes at least 500 years to break down, and less than 1% of EPS is recycled.
• EPS frequently ends up as litter in rivers and the ocean. Many animals mistake EPS for food, causing potentially fatal consequences.
• EPS is primarily made from styrene, a possible carcinogen. Chronic exposure to high amounts of styrene for extended periods can cause injury to the nervous systems.

EcoSecurity Utensils never contain styrene, and comply with EPS bans and other single-use plastic cutlery directives while remaining the safest, sturdy eating utensil for health care and correctional facilities where misuse of utensils is a concern.

Send us a message if you are interested in learning more about a molded fiber tray and lid which we are developing specifically for corrections, detention, and behavioral health facilities.

Tips for NCCHC accreditation for your facility ✔️

accreditation requires continuous quality improvement in mental health care delivered at your facility.

A continuous quality improvement (CQI) program includes regular meetings of a quality improvement committee to identify aspects of mental health care to be monitored or addressed. Once an area of concern is identified, the committee develops and implements a clinical corrective action plan, then monitors the results.

The plan must include an annual review of su***de deaths, su***de attempts, self-harm, and other serious incidents, conducted to identify trends and necessary corrective actions.

That’s where EcoSecurity Utensil comes in: this disposable utensil is specially designed to reduce dangerous self-harm incidents, improve eating experiences for patients, and cut costs associated with injuries. Try the safest and most humane option and make progress towards your NCCHC certification!
