Incorporated in February 2013 as the San Jose Cooperative Brewery and Pub, our co-op was created by and for fans of craft beer, ale, cider, and other tasty fermented beverages. As tribute to our local heritage, the co-op was renamed Umunhum Brewing in 2015, after Mt. Umunhum, an iconic peak in the nearby Santa Cruz mountains. The word "umunhum" is from the Oholone language and means "resting place

of the hummingbird." Our mission is to create a new "resting place" worthy of our local community. We are passionate about great beer, great food, customer service, and supporting local and organic farms. As a democratically owned and operated business, our motto is "Your drink the beer. You should own the bar." So we'd like to invite you to become a member and co-owner at join.umunhumbrewing.com.

*NEW BEER*
As summer kicks into gear, we have the perfect beer for you!

"A golden, hazy, wheat-based ale that will make any hummingbird happy.

Gratifyingly well-balanced for a hefeweizen, Happy Hummingbird is a light and refreshing ale with a slightly sweet flavor and a fluffy mouthfeel. The golden hazy hue and aroma of bananas, with a hint of cloves, will draw you in for your first taste, and you’ll happily stay for more. With its low hop bitterness, this flavor-packed hefeweizen has a smooth, dry finish, making a cheerful choice for a hot summer day.

Malts: Pilsner, Pale Wheat, Melanoidin
Hops: Perle, Liberty"

After months of lockdown, as the weather warms, you might be looking for a good reason to get out of the house. Luckily, we are planning another hike to the top of Mt. Umunhum!

Keeping everyone healthy is our top priority, and we would not plan this event if we did not feel that it would be safe. Because hiking is an outdoor activity, so long as everyone follows the rules about facial coverings and social distancing, this hike should be a relaxing and safe experience for everyone.

Because of the regulations concerning groups on Mt. Umunhum — and because of the need to maintain social distancing — the number of people who can join the hike is very limited. Therefore, your response will be required to reserve a spot in this group hike.

UB members, please DM or check your email for the reservation link.

*COVID Safety Note*

Even though some restrictions have recently been relaxed, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage across all of California. Accordingly, we are trying to do everything we can to keep everyone safe. In fact, we had planned to hold this crowler sale earlier but decided to postpone it because of the lockdown.

For this upcoming sale, everyone who helps prepare the crowlers will be required to wear a mask at all times and will be asked to take a COVID test beforehand.

Just in time for the recent re-openings, Umunhum Brewing is happy to announce our latest release Wiki Wheat Weizenbock!

"A wonderfully wheaty Weizenbock with a welcoming whisper of malty sweetness.

Collectively nurtured by multiple member contributions, Wiki Wheat is a dark hazy Weizenbock sporting a bready wheat flavor that’s balanced with a toasty malt sweetness reminiscent of dark fruits. This rich, high-alcohol wheat ale is complex and inviting, with a light tan head that presents a blend of malty, fruity banana, and spicy clove aromas. Thanks to its low levels of bitterness, Wiki Wheat has a slightly sweet palate and a smooth, dry finish.

Malts: Pale Wheat, Vienna, Munich I, Crystal 45L, Carafa II
Hops: Perle, Liberty"
