The Battle of the Bifanas stage is about more than entertainment- it’s about celebrating the full, evolving Portuguese-Californian and Portuguese-American experience.

By design, BOTB will feature a different lineup of artists and performers every year. This allows us to spread opportunities throughout the community, introduce audiences to new talent and showcase a diverse mix of styles, genres and generations.

We’re looking for artists who actively give back, strengthen our Portuguese immigrant community and bring fresh energy to our heritage while inspiring the next generation!

🍚🏆 The Arroz Doce Eating Contest 🏆🍚 has quickly become one of the biggest fan-favorites at Battle of the Bifanas and somehow, it gets sweeter, messier and more exciting every year!

This year, an incredible 5,000 people watched it happen live as ten hungry competitors took the Super Bock Main Stage to see who could eat the most Portuguese Arroz Doce before time ran out!

Defending champion Johnny "Joãzinho" Gaspar returned to protect his title, but a new champion was born! Marco “The Cinnamon Sinner” Sousa of Livermore, CA took the 2025 champ right down to the final spoonful- ultimately pulling off the victory in front of a record-breaking crowd!

Congratulations to our 2026 Arroz Doce Eating Champion, Marco Sousa! But, more on him later!

A very special thank-you to the contest’s title sponsor, our wonderful friends at Portuguese Tasty Desserts, for providing all of the delicious Arroz Doce! Without them, this contest would just be ten people holding empty spoons- and nobody wants to watch that. 😂

A huge thank you to Michelin-starred Chef David Costa for leading an incredible cooking exhibition to kick off Battle of the Bifanas II !👨🏻‍🍳⭐️

This interactive chef showcase gave our attendees a rare look inside the mind- and kitchen, of a true culinary genius as Chef David demonstrated how to prepare Portugal’s famously delicious Francesinha!

The crowd loved the experience…and we’re pretty sure they loved tasting the samples even more! 😋

Our heartfelt thanks go not only to Chef David, but to the entire ADEGA team for continuing to support our events, our ideas and our Portuguese community. 🇵🇹

ADEGA and Petiscos also generously provided Dinner for Two as prizes for both the first and second place finishers of our first ever Portuguese-American Game Show!

Thank you again, Chef David! We’ll be seeing you soon at one of these marvelous Portuguese restaurants- preferably with very large appetites! ❤️

A huge thank-you to Portuguese-Canadian stand-up comedy superstar Mike Rita for bringing monstrous laughs and hilarious moments to the Super Bock Main Stage at Battle of the Bifanas II !

Mike didn’t just crush his set—he also lent his talents and taste buds to our judging panel, helping us crown the 2026 Battle Of The Bifanas Champion. Talk about working for your bifana! 😉

We’re incredibly grateful to have welcomed one of the funniest Portuguese comedians on the map to our stage. Keep your eyes open for plenty more Mike Rita laughter as he continues touring alongside The Portuguese Kids and returns to RTP’s Portuguese Problems!
