Kathleen's grandparents, Arthur S & Ruby Nyland went back to the Wyoming Hereford Ranch and bought a box car load of bred heifers in 1946. They returned the next year and purchased another load. thleen's grandparents were previously in the commercial cattle business. We have started a small commercial herd on a completely difference ranch. We used some of the heifers that were going to be sold. When Kathleen's grandfather died suddenly, she and her mother Dorothy took over the management of the ranch. We were so very lucky to have Everett Shaw with us in a consultant capacity. He was with the herd from the beginning. He was from the same old school that Arthur was from, there were just things that women did not do. We were even told by our Farm Advisor, Rocky Lydon, "That men would never buy bulls from a woman." We sell coming two year old bulls and replacement heifers. Our customers are commercial cattlemen who are looking for bulls that are correct, with natural thickness and good bone. We cull ruthlessly. We do not show and have gone to very few bull sales. We have won Champion Hereford Bull at the Famosa Sale every year we have attended over the years, except once.
