❤️ A Heartfelt Update from Our Chill Spot Family

We’ve shared a personal letter about where Chill Spot is today and the possibilities ahead. This is a summary—please swipe through Pages 1 & 2 to read our full letter. ❤️

After much thought—and some heartache—we’ve decided to explore every option for Chill Spot’s future, including potentially transitioning out of our current location and offering our fully equipped café/restaurant space and assets to the right new operator.

Since we opened, food-service economics have changed dramatically. Like many restaurants, we’ve faced rising costs, slower-than-needed foot traffic, staffing limitations, and even a vehicle crashing into our storefront, with the insurance process still unresolved.

Through it all, I’ve continued investing my own resources, supported significantly by my other professional work, while our team has worked creatively to sustain Chill Spot through food offerings, events, catering, private rentals, community programming, collaborations, and marketing.

And through everything, you loved us—and we love you. ❤️ Being honored as Best of San Mateo – Ice Cream meant more than we can say.

We’re now looking honestly at what gives Chill Spot its strongest, most sustainable future. That could mean a new operator, partnership, opportunity, or team that allows us to continue—or, if necessary, thoughtfully closing this chapter at our current location. We remain open to whatever possibilities the future may bring.

For now, Chill Spot remains open. Our hours may occasionally adjust based on staffing, and we hope to have greater clarity about our direction by December.

Please continue to visit, bring family and friends, enjoy dinner or ice cream, celebrate with us, and tell others about us. If you know of a great team member, partnership, opportunity, or potential operator, we’d love to hear from you.

We haven’t given up on Chill Spot. We’re facing the realities honestly while keeping every meaningful possibility open. ❤️

We’ll be adjusting our hours to better reflect when our community is actually visiting us, while continuing to find ways to make Chill Spot an even better place to eat, gather, connect and spend time together. We’ll be announcing our updated hours soon—along with some other changes and exciting news we can’t wait to share.

And while tonight’s newsletter has already given you plenty of reasons to visit, we couldn’t resist one last food update because there are so many new and returning treats making their way onto our menu!

Our seasonal lineup now includes refreshing Lychee Italian Ice and Calamansi Italian Ice, with more rotating flavors coming soon, plus our new Chill Spot Fresh Watermelon & Cream Ice Candy / Mexican Bolis—and yes, we’re already working on more flavors of those, too.

If cake is more your love language, look for Tres Leches, Carrot Cake, Dubai Cake, Limoncello Cake and other rotating selections. We’re also adding some extra indulgence to our brownie case with Rocky Road Brownies and Cream Cheese Brownies, plus Banana Bread Belgian Waffles and our refreshing, creamy Calamansi Lemonade Cream Cloud Drink.
