It is with great sadness that we at Hurd La Rinconada Gallery share the passing of Michael Hurd, who died Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the age of 80 following an unexpected illness.
A lifelong New Mexico artist, Michael carried forward a remarkable family legacy, creating a body of work deeply rooted in the landscapes and spirit of the Hondo Valley while also preserving the historic Sentinel Ranch for future generations.
In this time of remembrance and transition, Hurd La Rinconada Gallery will be closed for a period but we look forward to sharing reopening plans. We are grateful for your understanding and your kindness.
Michael’s presence, artistry, and stewardship of this special place will be deeply missed by all who knew him and experienced his work.
We invite those who knew him or were touched by his work to share memories, stories, or photos as a way to honor and celebrate his life. You can comment below or send us an email: [email protected]
