Happy Birthday Julia Child!!! Magic 111 years old today (though we lost her just before her 92nd birthday).

During WWII, working with the OSS (a precursor to the CIA), she helped develop a shark repellent – still in use today! – "to ensure that sharks would not explode ordnance targeting German U-boats." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julia_Child).

Reportedly, her experiments "marked Child's first foray into the world of cooking" (!!!)

Thank you, Julia, for making the world of cooking fun and approachable – and for introducing so many generations of Americans to its great pleasures. It was *my* great pleasure, and honor, to know you!!!
