Heritage Days

Hello friends!

Fall is almost here, and that means one of the best planting seasons of the year is just around the corner. 🌱🌳

This Saturday, Wind Dancer Farm will be at Heritage Days with a great assortment of plants and trees, along with a few fresh produce items from the farm.

Heritage Days — Saturday, September 19
🕗 8 AM–2 PM Arizona time
🕘 9 AM–3 PM New Mexico time

Whether you’re planting a homestead, orchard, food forest, windbreak, or simply looking for a beautiful tree for your landscape, come browse the nursery section of our booth. We’re happy to help you choose plants that fit your property and growing conditions.

🌳 It’s Almost Tree-Planting Time!

As our temperatures begin to cool, fall is a wonderful time to get trees established. Planting in fall gives roots time to settle in and begin establishing before they have to face the intense heat of next summer.

We’ll be bringing a good selection of trees and other nursery plants to Heritage Days, including some of our best choices for fall planting in our high-desert climate.

🌳 Great Trees for Fall Planting

Italian Cypress — A beautiful, narrow evergreen that adds year-round structure without taking up much horizontal space. A great choice for creating vertical accents, screening, or planting in rows.

Pomegranates — One of our favorite edible landscape plants for our climate! Pomegranates love the sun and heat, are drought tolerant once established, and give you beautiful flowers followed by delicious fruit.

There will be no online ordering this week. Instead, we’re bringing our nursery to Heritage Days!

Come browse our selection of trees and plants in person, see what catches your eye, and talk with us about what might work well on your property.

We’ll also have a few fresh produce items available from the farm.

Everything will be available while supplies last, so come early if you’re looking for something special.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone, talking plants, and kicking off the fall planting season together!

Our latest news

Hi friends,

We’re taking a little break from the Portal Farmers Market this week while we give our hoop houses their fall reset!

It’s time to pull out the last of our current plantings, refresh the beds, and start planting for the cooler months ahead. We’re excited to get our fall crops underway and bring you a much bigger selection of fresh greens and vegetables as the season progresses.

You can still order from the farm this week!

We may also have lettuce heads, eggplant, zucchini, and a few other items ready as we get closer to harvest. I’ll update the online store on Thursday with anything additional that’s ready to pick, so be sure to check back!

This will be the last harvest of our current arugula and greens mix before we pull those plantings and start fresh for fall.

Portal Farmers Market

Hi friends,

We're back this weekend in Portal at the farmers market. We will have greens mix, arugula, eggplant and an assortment of hot peppers and other surprises. Crossing our fingers that mother nature will be nice to us so we can harvest some juicy tomatoes.

Greens are available online so you can guarantee your share before we sell out. Other items are available at the market only.

As a reminder, Fridays are are farm pickup days, so get your online order in by 5am Friday for 1-4pm farm pick up.

Portal Farmers Market

Hi friends,

We hope you've had a wonderful summer! After a short break, we're excited to be heading back to the farmers market circuit — starting this Saturday at the Portal Farmers Market.

What's fresh this week:

Arugula — peppery and crisp, straight from our new crop
Greens Mix — a vibrant blend perfect for salads or sautéing

Both are available for online pre-order now, so you can guarantee your share before we sell out.

Plus whatever else we manage to bring along — market days always have a few surprises!

Is it hot enough for you?! 🫠 Yes it is a hot and humid one isn't it? Mornings are a busy time here on the farm. We've started seeding some crops in hoop houses and getting ready to seed our fall/winter crops.

We're thrilled to inform you all that we were invited to attend the Lordsburg farmers market and community garden clean up day in association with the Hidalgo Food Hub this Saturday. We will be bringing a few produce items as well as plants and trees. If you happen to be in the area, stop on by. If you know anyone who'd be interested, please forward them this email.

This week we will have a new crop of greens mix and green beans plus eggs and onions. Just pre-order online Monday through Thursday, and your order will be ready for pickup Friday from 1-4pm. Plus, we still offer a vast amount of nursery plants that can be seen by appointment.

We hope your summer is going well. We are busy here at the farm working on building our earthship home, adding more irrigation and taking care of our summer crops. Summer is always a challenge on our poor plants, but adding mulch, drip irrigation and enjoying cloud cover really helps.

Although we are taking a break from farmers markets, we are still offering farm pickups. Just pre-order online Monday through Thursday, and your order will be ready for pickup Friday from 1-4pm.

This week we have our favorite lettuce mix, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, yellow onions, herbs and a limited supply of Italian eggplant. Plus, we still offer a vast amount of nursery plants that can be seen by appointment.

We hope to see you at the farm.

Yum! 🤤 blackberries are ripening. They are in full sun in the high desert of our farm in southeast Arizona, zone 8a. It’s hot! Waiting for our tree row adjacent to the blackberry row to grow taller so we can get them some shade. In the meantime, we’re going to drape some old shade cloth over them.

Dear Friends,

As summer arrives, we’ve decided to give both our fields and ourselves a well-deserved seasonal pause.

While much of the country is entering peak production, the intense heat of the Southwest makes summer a challenging growing season. During the coming months, we’ll be focusing on soil health by planting cover crops and legumes that help replenish nutrients, build organic matter, and regenerate the land. This important work prepares our fields for a productive and abundant fall season.

As a result, we will not be attending any farmers markets this summer. However, farm pickup will remain available on Fridays from 1:00–4:00 PM for online orders.

We will continue to have some fresh produce available, including lettuce mix, greens mix, and arugula for a little while longer. Cherry tomatoes and slicing tomatoes should be available throughout the summer, and eggplant will be coming soon. We may also have a few additional seasonal offerings—assuming they can withstand our desert sunshine, fierce winds, and summer heat!

Thank you for your understanding, your continued support, and for being part of our farm community. We look forward to growing for you again this fall.

We're excited to let you know that we will be back at the Portal market this Saturday. Come by and stock up on our arugula, baby garden carrots, our beloved lettuce mix, greens mix, red spring onions, along with some vibrant herbs. All skill levels welcome. Whether your're curious about farming or already love getting dirty, we're happy to have you.
