Some friendships are measured by how often you talk. Others are measured by the fact that no matter how much time has passed, the moment you hear each other’s voice, it feels like you just spoke yesterday.
That is the kind of friendship I have with Stephanie.
We met during our freshman year of high school and formed an immediate bond. Life eventually took us in different directions—I moved to Alaska, Stephanie moved to San Diego and then Las Vegas, and I eventually settled in Phoenix—but somehow the miles and the years never changed what our friendship meant. She even made it a point to be there for my wedding, and that is something I will never forget.
Today, my longtime friend is fighting cancer.
Stephanie is also a single mother to her son, Jacob, and a small-business owner whose livelihood depends on being able to stand, work with her hands, and care for her clients. Cancer does not pause the rent, household expenses, insurance premiums, medical copays, or the responsibility of providing for your child. It simply makes carrying all of it much harder.
Stephanie has always been strong, hopeful, independent, and determined. But even the strongest people sometimes need others to step in and help carry the load.
I am asking my friends and family to please take a moment to support someone who is incredibly special to me. Any amount you can give will make a difference. Ten or twenty dollars may not feel life-changing by itself, but when enough people come together, small acts of kindness become something powerful.
And if donating is not possible right now, please share this post. Your share may place Stephanie’s story in front of the person who is able to help. Most importantly, please keep Stephanie and Jacob in your prayers as they continue walking through this difficult chapter.
Stephanie, you have been my friend for most of my life. Distance has never broken that bond, and cancer will not either. You do not have to fight this battle alone.
Please donate, share, and help us surround Stephanie with the same love and support she has given others throughout her life.
